Class A went down some while Class B went up some in the numbers. Mendon came close to being a Class C team. Just might be a matter of time before they hit the bullseye. Class B becomes Class A Bloomfield Hills Andover Grand Rapids Creston (A by themselves now) Lansing Waverly Mason Niles Redford Thurston St. Johns Class A becomes Class B Cadillac Cars Detroit Murray Wright Grand Rapids Forest Hills Northern Lansing Sexton Wayland Class C becomes Class B Berrien Springs Flat Rock Flint Northwestern = Freep article Hopkins Lake Fenton Saginaw Valley Lutheran = co - op program Vassar Class B becomes Class C Dundee East Jackson Harbor Springs = co - op program Kalkaska Class D becomes Class C Allen Park Cabrini = Freep article Eau Claire Fulton Middleton Powers North Central = co - op program St. Joseph Lake Michigan Catholic = co - op program Vestaburg Class C becomes Class D Onaway = Freep article New Class C School? Melvindale Academy for Business and Tech = 2006/07 = 246 students I couldn't locate the new school in 2005 in Class C or D. Will they field a football team in 2006? I'll leave it to aowwt to find the others. Don't forget these class changes are important since home field advantage could be potentially be changed based on these changes. Note that these changes don't include potential co - op program changes.

If Orchard Lake St. Marys had 3 more students - they would be D3 come playoff time instead of D2 since they would be class A and no longer being able to play up. A rule which still makes no sense to me.

In 2005 the #62 biggest school in the state was the biggest school in D2. The #65 school is CC - so if it ends up like 2005, CC will be D2. I'm not sure if this is the normal cutoff number, maybe I'll have to check. Edit: It appears that #55 Bay City Central was the smallest D1 school in 2004. #60 Saline was the smallest D1 in 2003. #65 Jenison was the smallest D1 in 2002 #65 Detroit Ford was the smallest in D1 in 2001 #60 Holt was the smallest D1 in 2000 #64 South Lyon was the smallest D1 in 1999 Well, take what you want out of the past 6 years - - CC would be D2 all but 2 years since they changed the system. While doing this I did see that CC's enrollment at #65 would be a lot higher on past years lists.

All-Searn Hall of Fame Posts: 7365 03/28/06 9:46 AM MHSAA Football Stats	DCC got helped from the 2 Royal Oak schools combining their 2 high schools. On the MHSAA web site, the new school is called Royal Oak Kimball and the new enrollment number is 1977. The new average D1/D2 cutoff number is 61.57 so it might be a close call. My numbers exclude those schools that don't play football or the girls teams just so people can compare right.

The way D2 has looked recently and what we know about some of the top D2 teams, I'm not sure how much CC is being "helped" by a possible drop in Division. At the very least based on the D1/D2 average cutoff we can at least expect CC to be ranked in D2 in the McCabe and AP polls Anyone care to see where Lowell or a few of the other teams that flip flop divisions will end up?

They have a higher student enrollment than Adrian, which looks like the Maples will be in D2 again. This is what I had the cutoff points being: 2005 62 2004 55 2003 60 2002 65 2001 65 2000 60 1999 64 Bay City Central was team #55 in 2004 and played Grand Blanc in the playoffs on the www.michigan-football.com web site.

As I believe the class of 11 (frosh 07) is quite a bit larger than past years. ergo if DCC actually ended up D2 - no break there - it would only be for a single year. I envision CC enrollment to continue to climb until they max out @ around 1200. The fact that they continue to grow in light of a less than stellar MI economy speaks volumes to the school and traditions. 2400 kids would put them firmly in D1 in the future.

The enrollment taken in Feb 2006 is the enrollment used for the 2006-2007 school year sports. And I agree based on everything that has been said that CC will jump back up to secure D1 after this year.

All-Searn Hall of Fame Posts: 7365 03/29/06 1:23 AM MHSAA Football Stats	Searn, I do wish that both the AP and McCabe would use my average break points so as to put the teams in a more realistic division, but I don't see that happening any time soon. I forgot if I subtracted out 1 Royal Oak school in my 622 figure so it might be 621 teams in 2006. This should have no bearing on whether the AP and Mick McCabe has DCC in their D1 or D2 poll. Plus anyone have any word about Ann Arbor Central Academy fielding a team again?

With Vestaburg moving up to Class C, the Mid State South conference becomes a Class C conference for my purposes. In addition with expansion taking place in the Southern Michigan Football conference, it becomes a dual class conference with half the teams in Class C and the other half in Class D.

All-Searn Hall of Fame Posts: 7365 03/29/06 4:12 AM MHSAA Football Stats	TheOutlander, I saw your post about DCC being in D2 this fall. This isn't an automatic as Searn and I made it out to be. It will depend on what happens this fall. 2 out of 7 years, DCC would have wind up in D1. This is close to 28% of the time DCC will be D1. In my theoritical breakdown for this season, it MIGHT depend on whether Warren Cousino qualifies for the playoffs again. I just glanced at teams that I thought would make the playoffs and totaled them up so this was just a big time guess on my part right now.

There should be another one to balance it out so I'll double check later tonight (more Class A teams this year so not true). Usually I don't think that the number reaches 20+ so I was surprised that there were some more. I found some more changes. There are 4 more schools on the 2006 - 2007 student enrollment list compared to the 2005 - 2006 one. This could explain why there is more Class A teams this year. For this year the breakdowns for all the classes was: Class A = 190 Class B = 380 Class C = 571 Class D = 760 Last year the numbers were: Class A = 188 Class B = 377 Class C = 567 Class D = 756 I guess that I messed up on Petoskey becoming Class A. They are on the bubble and is Class B. I saw comments about schools shaving students so they can wind up in a certain class. While the breakpoints are usually fairly close year to year, it would be hard to know in advance exactly where the breakpoints will be since the MHSAA is suppose to divide all the schools in equal classes and then the student enrollment number becomes finalized based on that. Besides OLSM is below the Class A threshold so they could potentially opt up to play in Class A again, which would put them in division 2, instead of division 3.

Here are 4 out of the 4 new schools that I have with 2006 - 2007 student enrollment number: Melvindale Academy for Business and Tech 248 Hillsdale Will Carleton Academy 60 Shepherd Morley Charter School 30 East Lansing Lakeside Christian 24 EDITED If aowwt is right about the West Bloomfield Jewish Academy, then there probably are 5 new schools so I need help on 2 more. I guess that I found the last new school since aowwt was wrong about the West Bloomfield school. I guess that there should be a 5th new school based on Royal Oak Dondero closing.

Of course this is pending a court action. As some of you might recall, that academy took the MHSAA to court about baseball playoff games being played on saturdays. The main issue I have with any type of lawsuit like this is that the MHSAA is volunterary organzation and as such you are not required to join if you do not wish to participate in THIER playoffs. If you do wish you have to abid by THIER bylaws. Simple enough if you ask me. Lessons for modern warfare: "Human intel is necessary, always be on the look out, and expect the unexpected." All-Searn Hall of Fame Posts: 7365 04/02/06 7:59 AM MHSAA Football Stats	This is subtracting out the all girls schools and adjusting the co - op programs so you'll have to wait on the other 5 divisions until I do them tonight or Monday. Here is what the average division break point has been based on the 7 year average. This will give people a reference to what division your team might be in. These are the last teams in the division. Very interesting so far since these teams seem to make the playoffs under the current system. D1 = Flint Carman Ainsworth D2 = Birmingham Seaholm D3 = Middleville Thornapple Kellogg D4 = Gladwin D5 = Lansing Catholic Central D6 = Lake City D7 = Eau Claire I didn't round properly for D4 so that is why the change. It starts to get tricky starting with D5 since there are co - op programs that have a higher student enrollment already than the teams plus some that started on a lower one only to get boosted above that level. So hopefully I will be doing this right. Don't forget to leave out the all girls teams plus don't forget that quite a few co - op programs get a significant boost to put them over other schools. You should probably use the 2005 CPA numbered schools as a guide although there has been some changes. Well, I hope that I did this right. I tried my best to be accurate and will double check this late Sunday or late Monday.
