Another week in the book. @$)… no make that 240 — I'm not cussing at you — as things seem pretty smooth this week. The lines move slightly, I up 1, II up 1, III down two… sort of actually 1 team fell out & Det SW slipped to d IV. But since the last team — Sparta — fell two slots how does one count?

And of course Div VI, VII, and VIII get the residual bounces.

Added 4 from each class from the 135 2-2 teams as the non-automatic qualifiers. Note some 2-1 teams with 8 game schedules auto-qualified this week, while six 2-2 teams with 8 games scheds did not. Of those six Det. Consortium was selected as an at large because of POP average.

For the last A (2-2) slot, Ann Arbor Pioneer won the three way Rock—Paper—Scissors against Novi & Oxford. Better rethink your strategy…

what about Hudson going to D8? Unlikely, obviously, but that would be a NASTY division if they somehow ended up there with the likes of Mendon, Saugatuck, Ubly, and MCC.

So you expect 20 class C teams in Div VIII?

Class D has been taking a hit — last year at week 4 — they had 20 teams with zero or one loss, this year just 13.

Div VIII should be thankful if MCC or Hillman — only 2 unbeatens in D — can bring home the title. Long odds on class D.

Hudson would be over twice the size of an Iron Mt No. Dickinson or MP Sacred Heart.

I guess that I was looking at the wrong division, but D8 has been off by 4 teams so Hudson is real close to that standard.

I'll have to agree with that, we do have probability working for us, but 16-17 year olds are 'working against us' at times.

Only week 9 is going to be 'accurate' about the play-offs. Going to take a serious look at the schedules of the 2-2 class D's just to see the landscape a little better. And maybe go back and look at the past schedules of the teams that play 8 man football.

Nice charts.....thanks for all the hard work..

some updates you'll need to be aware of:

River Rouge is 3-1 as the Panthers beat Inkster 6-0 on Saturday...this game is not on the MHSAA master list. Also, River Rouge is playing at Dearborn Hts. Star International Academy in week 5, and at Detroit Old Redford Academy in week 9. MHSAA does not have these games on River Rouge schedule.

Star International will NOT receive a forfeit win over Plymouth Chrisitan Academy due to the newly scheduled game vs River Rouge.

Also, not that is changes Henry Ford's POP much, but the MHSAA still does not have Elida (OH) (3-1) full schedule on it's master list. Henry Ford lost to Elida, but Ford still gets points for every Elida victory.

Also, Windsor Assumption College schedule has finally been posted......A.A. Gabriel Richard has a forfeit win over W.A.C. this year.

Saw the report about River Rouge and Inkster on mLive. Still not reported to MHSAA. River Rouge still has only 4 games listed.

They need to get those to the MHSAA. Theirs is the only list that counts.

Questions encouraged. Will respond to 'what ifs' about particular teams.

Some new news for you:

Gwinn will cancel the rest of its football season, its school board decided Monday night, meaning the cancellation of two games for EUP teams.
The Modeltowners (0-4) had just 12 players available for this weekend's game against Negaunee, and the board was worried that there would be even fewer players available once academic eligibility takes effect Friday. Gwinn was scheduled to play at Newberry on Sept. 30 and at home against Rudyard on Oct. 7. Those schools have the option of taking a forfeit or scheduling a new game.

more updates:

MHSAA has updated River Rouge schedule to now include the previous mentioned 3 games.....they also already had 2 crossover games week 7 and 8 planned.

Also, with Gwinn throwing in the towel for the year, don't be surprised that the remaining 5 opponents find other games instead of just sitting there accepting a gift forfeit win.

Reports have it that Forest Park and Negaunee may be trying to schedule a game for this week. F.P. had an open date, Negaunee was scheduled to play at Gwinn. Also, Ishpeming may be trying to schedule Reese in week 9, perhaps at a neutral site. The Newberry, Rudyard and Norway many also try to find replacement games.

No school just wants to sit around and earn a gift forfeit. At least, unlike the lazy downstate schools, teams in the U.P. would rather play a game than sit home.

MHSAA Football Stats

Why didn't Gwinn bring up 20 players from an undefeated JV team to the varsity team rather than forfeit? This would make the varsity team at 32 players - surely enough to finish the season with. So Gwinn took the easy way out.

Okay, besides watching all the hs football nationwide, you have all the jv's of the UP monitored? Standings or individual game scores?

I imagine this is another 'parental' that would rather have possibility of undefeated jv rather than a possible 1-8 varsity.

It's not very difficult to find the U.P. JV scores.....as all the U.P. JV schedules and scores are kept on the up-football website...

Like Packer fans nationwide....the folks in the U.P. live and breathe their football....much like West Michigan..........it is really uncanny.
