JLC vs Marshall. Hoping it's a good one as I've seen a couple blowouts already this year.

This game really surprised me. JLC is very small defensively, and Marshall had been running the ball well all season, but JLC just stoned the Marshall running
game all night. Wimberley never could get it going, and Marshall's passing game was off slightly so JLC did not have to worry about a big play. JLC's
kids dominated the line of scrimmage, and once Marshall got down 21, you could see them really start to fold.
JLC lost two fumbles in the first quarter, but Marshall did nothing with these two turnovers. Once JLC quit turning the ball over, they moved the ball well both on the ground and in the air. JLC showed a lot of offense that they had not needed in the previous weeks, and Marshall was really caught off guard. JLC looked really good, especially on defense, but if they want to make a deep playoff run, they'll need to eliminate the turnovers. It killed them in week 1, and could have been a problem last week, but Marshall did not take advantage. "The common man revels in HAVING WON. The champion finds his satisfaction in WINNING." - F.H. Yeah, I went. LOL
When JLC turned the ball over twice in their own territory and Marshall couldnt do anything with it....I knew it was gonna get ugly. I went into the game expecting JLC to win, I just thought a game that ended 27-21 last year may have been a little closer. Marshall was getting hyped up as a good team this year. I didnt see it. JLC on the other hand did impress me, but it seemed the coach is still experimenting a lot with the offense. I suspect we'll see JLC at FF again this year. |

JLC did not have to do much to win the three games prior to Marshall, so I think Coach Brogan was looking to try some new stuff against a better opponent.
Still only threw one pass in the second half....I'd expect to see more passing against a really good defensive club that selss out against the run.

Seems like the first half was all about Bellers, I dont know how many carries he had in the first half vs the 2nd half but the 2nd half seemed focused on
Sullivan and trying him out just about everywhere. I think he lined up at QB, RB, and WR.
They will be an interesting team to defend come playoff time. And the Titan Defense has only given up an avg of 4 points a game through the last 4 games. Some class A teams but the opponent win loss records is a combined 8 - 12..... which includes Marshall at 4-1. Regardless this is a good Football team. I should be careful with the FF comments......they'll have to go thru someone in Muskegon area in order for that to happen. I was thinking they'd go East but they didnt last year.

I've heard that GRWC is really, really good this year, and I'm guessing they will fall to D5. Could be interesting with Heights and GRWC, and then toss
in a wily old vet like Shugars, and you could have quite a battle on the west side just to win the region.
If JLC goes east, and they haven't the last several years, I like their chances better to get to FF. West will be much more of a challenge. "The common man revels in HAVING WON. The champion finds his satisfaction in WINNING." - F.H. Yost

GRWC has gotten a lot of folks attention. I know of a few fan's of D4 teams that dont want West in D4 this year. LOL I'm personally not so sure why.
GRWC came into the season with zero hype. They returned a QB. But other than that didnt have a bunch of well known skill players. I havent seen them play but I
think they have an experienced QB, and good (or is it just big) O and D lines .... and that has been the key to their success. Look at the West schedule and
you'll see it's full of average teams. Heck, even GRCC and Allendale arent playing all that well this year.
Of course same could be said for Heights. Heights has played all different types of teams from all over the fricken State, but most of them happen to have losing records this year. For comparison of opponents win loss records after 5 weeks: GRWC 11 - 14 Muskegon Heights 6 - 19 Oakridge 18 - 7 JLC 12 - 13 I was surprised by how strong Oakridge was and how poor Heights was. Interesting....because Heights beat Oakridge. LOL |
