For NCAA
The Elite (the first that come to mind, no research done)
USC
Florida
LSU
Texas
Oklahoma
I'm sure I probably missed some teams that should be in there ... but this was all off the top of my head.

Just based on my "look test" as one could call it that I brought up regarding the high school teams ...

7-5 did hurt thugh, I dont know how far back you want to go, but LSU should be at least considered as a possiablity of being in that ELITE class

You do know that the second NC is 6 years old now, don't you? That is why I put more emphasis on the last couple of years since Searn said
"right now". If you want to include that second NC, then go back for 10 years then.
Boise State since they only lost 4 times in 3 years and has a victory over Oklahoma in a bowl game.

Go back to 2004 so I can add my underdog "elite" pick Utah.

No doubt that Utah is very, very good, but i dont think that they would have only 4 losses in 3 years if they played in a tougher conference. No doubt they
continue to prove me wrong by beating OU and UA, so i would put them as there, but not there. you know what i mean?

They do have 2 BCS bowl wins since 2004 however.

I think Utah is at least in the discussion if you go back to 04.2 undefeated seasons, Kyle Whittingham is as good or better than the majority of HC's in
BCS conferences, last year they played a difficult schedule(4 ranked teams, two top 10) ran the table, then just flat took it to Bama in the Sugar Bowl.

I think you can say that Utah is a very good program right now .. but are not in line to be considered "elite"
Like I said I didn't go into the record books ... these were just the programs that came out onto the computer when I thought "College Football Elite" .... LSU seems to be the most debatable ... I don't think of Ohio State as being in line with that group.... but they'd be in the next group of very good teams.

I agree on OSU Searn. Tressel has done a great job and OSU is an elite Big 10 team that went on one of the greatest runs in Big 10 conference play in a long
time, but when you get hammered twice in the BCS title game it is hard to call OSU and elite national program.

I would argue that if you went to the BCS championship game would help solidify your standing as "elite", but thats just me.

Heres my list
1. USC- Its self explanatory why they're the top. 2. Florida-2 NC's in the last three years is very impressive (Especially playing in the toughest conference in CF) 3. Texas- The most consistent programs win wise, 10 win seasons every year under Mack Brown. Plus 05 NC against a very good USC team. 4. LSU- The first to two BCS NC's, I know they were 7-5 this year but they showed why the SEC is tops against GT in the Peach Bowl. 5. Oklahoma- They would be higher if they could win in the BCS bowl games, they play a tough schedule, why doesn't this translate into bowl wins? Close to Elite Ohio State- Yes they have a NC this decade, but its disputed with that call. Good Big Ten team, mediocre against equal or better competition is what has dropped their "Elite" status for now. Penn State- Joe Pa is over 80 years old and PSU is only going to get better this year with Clark and Royster back and the Defense back, they should win the Big Ten again and go to the Rose Bowl (Probable loss to USC) Will be back soon Miami- Randy Shannon has another good recruiting class along with the last two, Miami will be Miami again this year with an ACC Title. Notre Dame- Weis is BCS bowl or bust this year, The Irish better win 9 games this year. |

First, people can't overrule on the field calls or there were several controversial Super Bowl wins as well. I can remember some controversial calls going
the SEC way during their NC wins as well. Next, the Buckeyes have lost less games than LSU has since 2000. Next up, LSU had so many losing season in the
1990's that it is pathetic to put them on the list. If you want to go back 10 years, Buckeyes are better. Go back to 1990 and it's a no brainer.

Georgia Tech was 7 - 3 pre bowl wise since I don't count wins over non 1A teams.

Mr NCAA, the Bucks record is the product of a weak conference (The Big Ten is overrated IMO). If you look at the 90's who did Ohio State play that was any
good? Even with the 7-5 record for LSU, its safe to say they would easily beat Ohio State and Penn State because GT would have both teams on the ropes.
