I've been an avid listener of Sports Radio 1130 AM "The Fan" (WDFN) since about 1995.. and am very disappointed that the local guys were let go and it appears to be a national sports radio station at this point.

Stoney and Wojo, Sean Baligian, etc. will be missed!

Very disappointing!

If WXYT was smart, they would bring in, at a minuimum, Stony & Wojo. I was also a fan of Sean Beligians', but I am not sure how strong his ratings were.

I am typically a "glass half full" sort of person, but this is just another piece (albeit small) of the diminishing Michigan pie and as much as I hate to admit, my "glass" is getting emptier by the day.

Disappointing to hear all of these guys are gone. I was a big fan of Stoney and Wojo. I always thought they were talented guys, especially Stoney. I thought he could broadcast anywhere.

Sad to see this happen. It definitely diminishes the local sports scene.

Instead of the simulcast wouldn't it make sense to put Stoney and Wojo or some other local shows on 1270?

I'd rather having something on FM ... but is their really a point to having the same shows on two stations?

Interested in where MHSAA players will be playing at the next level and/or college football in general?

Very shocked. Driving to and from work will not be the same. What is there to listen to at 6am now?????? There are now NO LOCAL sports talk radio in the morning.... Hopefully stoney and the gang from wdfn can re surface elsewhere...... As for clear channel I WILL not listen to any of there stations.. took them all of the radio dial.

Stoney and Wojo could make a nice morning show on XYT ... I'm not sure what Jay and Bill are supposed to be on there ... it's clearly not a sports show, Jay knows nothing about sports ... but they force out some sports topics here and there because they are on a sports station.

As I turned on 97.1fm today and heard a Tigers game it dawned on me how bad spoarts radio is going to be this summer without WDFN.

Unless it's a NBA Playoff, NHL Playoff or a big football game (NCAA or NFL) .... I can't stand listening to sporting events on the radio. There are so many regular season MLB, NHL and NBA games that none of the individual regular season games interest me enough to listen to the play by play on the radio.

If a regular season Pistons or Wings game happens to be on TV .... I might watch a bit ... but not on the radio!

Next year 97.1 will take on the Pistons as well..... There are times of the year where they are not going to have any time for the sports shows with all the games going on .... especially when the Tigers, Wings and Pistons are all playing at the same time.

It was nice to have a 2nd local sports talk option that I could switch to so I don't have to listen to the Tigers and such over the summer.

BAH! Bring back the FAN! (the not bought and paid for version)

Stoney and Wojo will not be on xyt..they are still under contract and getting paid for I believe another 3 years....I would love to see Baligian there..He is the only one I would not mind seeing there...Matt Dery will probably be hired soon if not already..He will be the main Pistons guy...Also, Jay and Bill will not be going anywhere(unfortunately) ..They have good ratings and dont make much cash...

I may be biased because of Baligian's ties to my HS, and the fact that he always trys to talk us up, especially the past two years. but personally, his input on the high school scene was better than anyone else's. I'm very disapointed to hear that he will be let go. I had a chance to meet him the day after our loss against Rockford before the Lions game at mario's, and he seemed like a very nice guy with his kid. In our brief encounter, i told him how disapointing it was losing so close in back-to-back years, but he said we should feel proud, because we were the two best teams that the school's ever had, (1975?). He also said that we were 23-4 in our varsity careers, and that playing nine more games than most kids do is a great achievment. Even though it seems like useless advice, if you've ever been in that situation you would understand.

While listening to a little of the Red Wings post game show ... another issue came to me...

Jeff Riger is our NHL Champion Red Wings post game guy?

We have guys in this town like Regner and Baligian and this is what we have....

Let's be honest ...

Riger ... while I'm sure a quality individual ....I don't have any reason to think otherwise .... doesn't have 25% of the hockey/red wings knowledge or the radio personality that guys like Regner and Baligian possess ....

Unfortunately the most important thing is that Riger probably also comes at 25% of the salary.

Regner sucks....He made his own bed by being a lazy ass at xyt..He was never prepared and never gave good opinions on anything...But hey, Go Wings..!!

I've always like Art .... more for his personality than sports knowledge at times .... but I always enjoyed his shows.

I really liked when he teamed up with Karsh .... even though it would often turn into a Wolverine slap fest .... at least they were both into college football.

The thing is, for the last year and a half of that show, Art mailed it in on most days..Doug would come in prepared to do a show and it was like Art was disinterested most of the time..

He lost his fire with the Lions, so that killed any credibility he had there...He was doing some post game stuff recently and admitted to not really watching the game because he was "Lions Free"..That is inexcusable..That was his job...

Now the "old" Art was different..The one who had passion and fire..that was the great art..Not the one of the last 3 years...

I'll agree Art was never quite the same after he left DFN.

Art appeared genuine in his "rants" in the early days ..... but it seemed like at XYT it was more of a character he was playing.

But I still enjoyed his show with Karsh.

Funny how your radio partner can make a difference.

I thought Terry Foster was below average in his days at DFN with Eric Pate, and to a lesser extent Regner...... but I think he works well with Valenti.
