This has got to be the biggest disappointment that I've ever heard of.

I have a feeling the Lions are going to pass on Smith due to the combines and workouts ... and he will end up being an excellent player somewhere else. Just a feeling.

He's cost himself at least 20 million in guaranteed money at this point. Just curious where other posters think he falls to at this point? I think the top 10 is gone... past that I'm not sure.

But it sure looked like he could play football this past fall. The way it sounds like he is falling ..... some NFL team will either get the steal of the draft or a bust.... could go either way. Based on his play in 2008, it would be hard for me to not take him if he's still around at #20.

All-Area Posts: 175 03/12/09 5:40 PM	Ryan Leaf looked great at WSU but in the pro's.... There is no doubt Smith is very talented and capable but at this point I'm not sure if he would be mentally prepared for what it takes to be a top notch pro player week in and week out if he can't focus in enough for a combine then still drops the ball at his pro day one has to wonder about his mental toughness.

(San Francisco early 80's, New England right now.) All-Searn Hall of Fame Posts: 6943 03/13/09 11:28 PM Board Owner http://michiganhsfootball.com http://ndfanzone.com	I think all teams make some mistakes in the draft .... but I think some teams such as today's Patriots make up for it by making good decisions in free agency and such as well as surrounding draft picks with other players putting them in a better position to succeed.. ... so it's not as obvious. I don't have much confidence that Stafford or Sanchez could come into the Lions organization and succeed right now ..... and they could end up a bust. But I think if the Patriots plugged one of those guys in there (let's pretend Brady had a major setback and the Pat's were forced to trade for the Lions #1 pick to get a QB) ...... I think either could easily have a Cassel type year.... and suddenly would be one of the NFL's stars.
