Highland Park Schedule |
Lead | ||
|
It looks like Highland Park's schedule is complete, and what a schedule it is. Kudos to the HP AD for putting together once of the most challenging
schedules in the state. They could have gone the easy route once the MEGA Conference disbanded, but in its first year as an independant, the Polar Bears have
scheduled OLSM, Brother Rice, Inkster, Detroit Country Day, Flint Powers, Dearborn, Lansing Everett, and Ohio power Cincinnati Moeller. Here's a link to
the 2009 H.P. schedule: http://michigan-football.com/f/highpark.htm

What was the easy route? It doesn't sound like they were invited to join any of the new leagues ....
Does anyone know why the "outcasts" .... Inkster, Highland Park, Willow Run, River Rouge, Ecorse .... didn't come together to form a small league? |

It's tough as an Independent .... I would have to think these teams will be looking for leagues ASAP....
I don't know the bylaws of the PSL and whether or not a school outside the Detroit .. but perhaps if they can't find anything else HP could join the Detroit PSL. Or possibly the OAA with Hazel Park, Ferndale and such being somewhat close. |

I still dont understand why Inkster was left out of the new Western Wayne league....

The OAA would be a good fit for Highland Park. Similar to Oak Park. The PSL would also work. There have been non-Detroit schools in the PSL. I remember
when UD Jesuit was in the old PSL--called Metropolitan League at the time.

Highland Park has not made the playoffs since 2006 ... and with the schedule it's likely that will continue. |

Remember they didn't really play/ lose to Edsel Ford, they beat Inkster, and they played Dearborn, and Fordson very close. Both these teams make perfect sense for the Western Wayne. |

I did forget that it appeared that HP was packing in their whole season ... but only ended up forfeiting the one game. .... while HP was not in the playoffs
the last two years ... they certainly competed in the games they lost.
While I do think it will be difficult to make the playoffs with the 09 schedule, I can say without hesitation they will not lay down for anyone ... and they will give teams all they can handle. Were there non-football related issues that kept these teams out of the Western Wayne? I'll plead ignorance as I'm not aware of either team's stature in the rest of MHSAA sports. |

My guess is the rest of the sports may have kept them out of it, but I think it would make sense to have them as a member for football, and basketball. I think that would benefit the league, and HP as well. But that could be against MHSAA rules, so who knows. |

Looks tough. Highland Park took the hard route in scheduling in picking up Moeller, Brother Rice, Country Day, and OLSM instead of, say, Hamtramck, Conner
Creek Academy, Star International, and Ecorse. At least they picked up an easy win (River Rouge).

Looks like HP decided not to include the alternative ed students for 2009? (I assume with such an enrollment rise and drop)
2007: 880 2008: 1,385 2009: 925 I wonder if a few of HP's opponents are upset that they are now playing a "B" school .... and losing out on potential playoff points. |

The opponents could have put in a conditional clause in the contract for the Highland Park to be in Class A or the opponent can cancel the game if they find
another opponent.
