Houston hospitality rates a "1" in my book! My visit was pleasant - even fun.

Houston traffic is quite another matter! I returned the rental car early. My trembling hands were an embarrassment.

The outcome of the game was a problem for me. Not so much that the Broncos' lost, but the margin by which they lost. Yes, the officiating caused me to verbalize my disgust more than once; however, Rice was obviously the more effective team and deserved the victory. WMU demonstrated the same defensive flaws we witnessed at Buffalo, Mt. Pleasant and Muncie. Offensively, they sputtered to a degree which surprised me. I understand that Hiller played with an injury which may well explain his performance, but some receivers let down the cause with drops which were inexcusable.

Got a tremendous kick out of Kirk Elsworth's touchdown catch. He is a Genesee County guy who had a superb high school career. Personally, I think his talents were not used to the extent they might have been during his four years as a Bronco.

Grandson John missed a 51-yard field goal attempt. The kick was short and a bit left. What I thought I saw
was a ball which was struck too low. The tumble was too rapid. Having watched his warm up prior to the
game, I was surprised and disappointed by the miss.

His two kickoffs were solid. They were officially recorded at 69 and 70 yards. The conversions were on
target. I was glad the coaches didn't lay the on-side kick on him. Kelly executed the kick well and John almost secured to the ball for the Broncos. With but a little more than 20 seconds left in the game, I am puzzled as to why the on-side attempt made.

John did well in the 2008 season. My hope is that he impoves in the future and makes a more significant
to the Broncos' program.
