All-Searn Hall of Fame Posts: 6207 11/16/08 12:12 AM MHSAA Football Stats	Tags : None This occured during one of my DirecTV high school football games. They asked the following question: "What do you enjoy the most about watching high school football?" 1T. Cheerleaders/pep squads 29% 1T. Student body spirit 29% 3. The band 20% 4. competition on the field 15% 5. rivalries 7% I guess that I'm in the minority and goes to the high school football games based on competition on the field. I can't believe that the football game itself is in the minority position for the poll.

NCAA, I've been to games--mostly at the suburban public schools like Seaholm and Troy, where the stands are full of a bunch of women who spend the whole first half talking to each other and hardly watching the game. Then comes halftime and they stand and cheer the band and/or dance or pom pom sqauds. Second half and they are back to their chit chat. It's very annoying when you are trying to watch the game. I also thinki those dance squads are quite lame. But, I guess it takes all kinds. Football is definitely secondary to the ancillary activities at some of those suburban schools.

We'll see what happens to attendance, and why people really show up. There are band competitions on Saturdays since the older daughter participated in the Clarkston band when the Wolves finished a school record at that time third and fourth places in state wide competition at the Pontiac Silverdome. It took 16 schools to fill up one side at Clarkston's home side when the competition was held at home. I haven't seen any Clarkston bands that were better than my daughter's group on the football field so those should still be the best.
