John Potter Selected MAC West Special Teams Player of the Week |
Lead | ||
|
John contributed eleven points to WMU's total in last Saturday's upset of Illinois, and as a result was named the MAC West's Special Teams Player
of the Week.
Not too shabby for a "Freshy". |

By the way ... Did ND ever take a look at John?
While it's been improved the past few weeks .. the kicking at ND has been horrible this year. |

John was offered an "opportunity" to be a "preferred" walk-on.
I am going to Muncie for Tuesday's game with Ball State. Hoping to see John add a couple of points to his season total. My biggest thrill of the year was watching the Broncos' comeback against Buffalo. That was pushing the limits on amazing! |

If John's early success is any indication ....
I bet he would have had a scholarship by now at ND. |

Wouldn't dream of arguing that point. People tried to tell them about John. The ND staff didn't accept the input. Doesn't make sense to cry about
that! Life is what it is.

I'm crying about it as a ND fan ... lol
Oh well The kicker they have is "improving" as the season has gone on and they have a somewhat highly rated kicker committed right now ... so hopefully it works out. I bet he issue on John was the reluctant to give a K scholarship in that class ... as not too use up to many at one position at a time. Currently they already have a SO and JR kicker on scholarship. |

At Ball State, John kicked well. Two PATs brought his season point total to 72.
He has made 8 tackles (4 solo and 4 assists) in 12 games. His best hit of the season was not allowed because of a penalty on the receiving team. The solo tackle Tuesday was a dandy too. I rated it a close second to the disallowed one. There is much talk and print about a bowl game. Hope it's one I can afford! |

I have followed John all year from a far. I was at the CMU/WMU game this year. Being a Chip, I still cheered for John. I hope he has an all american year next
year and every year after!
GO EK! |

That's very kind.
The CMU game is fixed in my memory because of the fine tackle John made on Beauford. Saved a touchdown. Kalamazoo Gazette photographer Jonathon Gruenke caught the action beautifully. You have to know that I ordered a few copies of that shot! Intend to frame a couple of them and give them to John and his parents for Christmas. Western Michigan currently ranks 14th in the nation for defense on kickoff returns. That's a team statistic. Rightfully so. But John has played an important role in achieving that mark. It has been an enjoyable season. |

The Texas Bowl?
Houston? I'm going! I actually have all the obvious details nailed down. Flying out of Grand Rapids. Staying at a Holiday Inn within walking distance of Reliant Stadium. Arranged for a rental car. Bought two club section tickets off the internet (alleged to be on the 40-yard line). Even though I'm a Gary Club member, these seats are probably better than those available through WMU's ticket department. I sure don't know - - - but I acted on that premise. Here's hopin'! |
