Since TommyZ wanted to rip on the OAA on mdead, here is the elite teams by the major conferences:
KLAA 4
MAC 3
MEGA 3
OAA 3
CHSL 2
Now tell me how is the OAA any different from the MAC or MEGA? All 3 has the same amount of teams left in the playoffs.

I don't know exactly what TZ said on mlive ....
But it's safe to say that my opinion of the OAA after 9 games is different than my opinion of the OAA after 11 games..... and not for the better. OAA = worse than expected CHSL = worse than expected KLAA = better than expected MAC = better than expected MEGA = about what I expected |

Your words said that the OAA wasn't good this year. I've shown where the OAA is at least equal to the MAC and MEGA. So I suppose that I can say that
those conferences aren't very good this year based on your standard.
BTW only Rochester Adams had a higher seed that lost for the OAA and they played BBR. I guess that Ferndale lost as a higher seed as well. For the MAC both Macomb Dakota and Marine City lost as higher seeds as well.

I'll jump in here real quick... having watched the OAA rather closely for several years now, other than the Adams loss to Rice, this is exactly what I
expected from the OAA. I guess you could say that Ferndale going down was disappointing, but not so much, as there's no real playoff mystique/history from
the Eagles.
I have to say... I enjoyed watching the OAA this season. I've been to 21 games. I expect to see 3 more this coming weekend and at least one semi somewhere. Is the OAA down? To that question I answer... hardly. To reason that would be like slapping St Clair Lake Shore, Brother Rice, Dakota, Romeo or Lakeland right in the face. We're talking about quality programs here. For the record it was very interesting to see that at least one MAC slappy claim that Sterling Heights Stevenson won when in fact on the MHSAA website the
Titans lost to the Dragons. Congrats to the Dragons for making the semis. I was beginning to believe that the OAA division 1 teams wouldn't get by the MAC
Red teams anymore. Especially when I saw the huge comeback by the Titans on mlive.
Tomorrow 5 lower CPA teams should win since 5 did so tonight. So things are looking up for the OAA to have 3 semifinalists this year. Wyandotte vs. Southfield should determine which conference ends up with 3 teams in the semis.

The MAC League Website had a 36-35 final posted on their front page even before Heath lined up his game winning 50 yarder. |

Ok just 3 games to go and here are the current standings:
OAA 3 MEGA 2 CHSL 1 KLAA 1 Warren Fitzgerland plays BH Lahser so MAC will have 1 or OAA will have 3 left. I noticed the MAC league website having posted the score wrong as well. For the record I watched Brad Redford make his debut for Xavier Unversity against IPFW last night with picture in picture. Lahser won so the OAA has 3 teams still left.

based on what has happened in the past, but too difficult to predict the future without looking at the past, though. So, in essence I agree with your modus
operandi. But...
Michigan high school playoff victories and related accolades, just like the college Hesiman trophy, should go to the player/teams that do well THIS season, or maybe just at this post season moment, regardless of their past or possible future. And, as we have seen this year, not all wins go to the team with the best record, most talent, best recruiting, or those that play "in the toughest conference." These playoffs are all about "one and done." In any given game, the "W" may be awarded to the "best" team, or be awarded because of a break such as a weird bounce, great or maybe dropped catch, questionable penalty, bad play call, blown coverage, poor/great game time adjustment, weather, wind direction, or even divine intervention. But you can't tell a kid that his team won't win because they played in a "weak" conference or because his team has never been there before. As most posters, we have our allegiances, and root for our team or conference, as do you. We celebrate a victory, feel sorrow with a loss, and talk about what might have been only if things had gone differently. So, for the moment, good luck to the remaining 32 teams, to the OAA conference teams, and to the Lake Orion Dragons. |

I should point right about now that Searn gave credit to Troy for making the semis just last year when Clarkston was a better football team. So much for
meeting or exceeding expectations. Where is the consistency?
For the conference that sucked according to TommyZ, the OAA leads in the semifinalists.

Here is some facts for Searn and TommyZ to ponder when making their comments. Here is the number of semifinal appearances by year and by teams currently
located in the OAA. In 2008 the teams tied for the most semifinal teams ever since 1999. So that is some very bad football playing in the OAA when they tie
records.
1999 Clarkston and FHH 2000 Clarkston and FHH 2001 FHH 2002 BH Lahser 2003 Rochester Adams and FHH 2004 Rochester Adams 2005 Rochester Adams, BH Lahser, and FHH 2006 FHH 2007 Troy and Rochester Adams 2008 Lake Orion, Southfield, and BH Lahser This totals 18 teams in 10 years. I would say 1 is below par year, 2 average year, and 3 above average year. So the OAA is in above average year in producing semifnalists. So not too shabby as I like to say. |

I'm not sure what those stats are supposed to mean to me (in this conversation, obviously the OAA has had a lot of success over the years) ...
My basic comment was that the OAA was a little disappointing to me in the early rounds of the playoffs based on my expectations from the regular season play. The OAA could have had 36 semi-finals teams in the past 10 years leading up to this year and my comments would have been the same. |

Hmm... should I start the Harrison arguement that it doesnt count cuz they were in the WLAA till 2003? nahh........ anyhow... we will see lahser vs inskter
this week.. should be interesting.. same with the blue jays against the pilots..... I would say the oaa is it what is... nothing too flashy and i expect two of
the teams to lose and the Lake Orion dragons to make it to ford field.
