Senior Posts: 68 10/21/08 1:02 AM Playoff Maps and Brackets	Tags : None PLAYOFF MAPS The latest group of maps (labeled Week 9) show the teams that would make the playoffs if all the favorites win in week 9. Their records and POP values reflect the projected changes. The method of determining which team is the "favorite" is described here: http//searnfootballforum.yuku.com/topic/5855. If you have questions or comments about the teams being included or excluded, please state them on that thread. Check back for discussion and changes made to the maps, and feel free to add your own questions or comments. Enjoy!

Junior Posts: 93 10/21/08 1:09 AM	Just throwing some ideas out: Thoughts on purple and green being paired as R3 in D4, with white and brown as R4? Also in D6: although the way you have it currently "fits my eye," after our discussion of 2007 D4, I am left wondering whether they might make purple/white R2. D7: swap Ravenna and Pewamo-Westphalia? As for D6: I prefer it the way you have it drawn up, but I think I would have drawn up D4 last year differently than they did, and if we're trying to predict what they do, I'd rather be right than anything else. It'd be interesting to get some experienced input on past tendencies. As for Ravenna: I was thinking that M-46 is a pretty major thoroughfare and is the way to get to Merrill, gets you close to Blanchard-Montabella, and then you're just left with roundabout trips to Fulton.

Im a GAC fan and want all 6 to make it but I didn't know any of these teams were close getting an at large berth. The map says they would get a rematch with Beecher. However, I think Byron is going to beat Genesee this week. If that happens does Bentley get knocked down into Div. 7?? Also, does Mount Morris have a shot as a 5-4 or what about NL??

Snooze: I was digging around and found one of the years that led me to make the observation I did to you about my sense that you didn't break to the west enough (which prompted a whole discussion on another thread and has led to some uncertainty as to how to treat R2/R3 in the current "favorites win" D6 projection). If you look back at 2006 D7, there was the distinct possibility of a Decatur vs. Norway matchup in the State Semifinals; the MHSAA's willingness to allow for such a matchup is in part what drove my sense that they move west with R1D2 and R2. My confidence in that observation, though, has been shaken because I am not at all accustomed to having the Saginaw/Bay City area being put in R3 down in the smaller Divisions. On the other hand, I dug back a bit and in 2002, a district of largely "Thumb" teams got drawn into a Region that ultimately saw Montrose play Country Day in the Semifinals. I wonder how common that is; it strikes me as extremely uncommon, but I may not have enough historical perspective.

Senior Posts: 72 10/21/08 3:39 PM Playoff Maps and Brackets	Apple, I had a nice scatter plot to go with this, but the automatic formatting messed it up. Here we go: http://www.snooze2you.com/scatterplot.htm When the teams are distributed with clusters representing population clusters, a pattern for selection tends to emerge. The dots very loosely represent a "typical" scattering of playoff schools, probably more fitting for D2-D5, with D1 being more concentrated on the east, and D6-D8 being more evenly distributed. If you try to group these dots into groups of 4, and then 8, with the goal of minimizing overall distance between dots, you naturally start at the top, where the dots are far apart. The cluster on the left side can conveniently connect with the top dots, the bottom-left dots, and the central dots... and finally move toward the right side, where dots are more dense, making sure that the "outliers" get first priority for minimizing distance. It often just works out that way because that's how the schools are often distributed. When the teams are more evenly distributed, the path taken to create regions is not so obvious. Hence, you get Saginaw teams paired with northern teams.

First, make sure your map is Public by going to Map Info and checking the box next to Shared Map. Go to "http://www.mapbuilder.net/users/<username>" where <username> is your mapbuilder username. Click on "View" next to the map you've created. When your map displays, copy the URL from your browser. It will have this format: "http://www.mapbuilder.net/users/ <username>/<mapnumber>" Paste the URL in your reply back to me. We'll proceed from there. Last Edited By: SnoozeToMe 10/22/08 1:00 PM. Without giving it much thought, it seems like there would be a case for Sanford Meridian going north instead. I agree there are a few ways the SE corner could go.
