I have been enjoying reading all of the recent discussions surrounding potential division breaks, districting, seeding/re-seeding, which Division is stronger,
the intrigue over what team may move up or down from their traditional division come playoff time, etc. Soaking in all of those discussions and then reading
some of the debate regarding Ohio v Michigan HS football, particularly with some of the Michigan programs (DLS - BBR - Inkster) recently playing Ohio teams and
the "quality" of the wins of our teams based on opponent. The "Ohio" arguement being that these teams, even though ranked, are ranked in
the "lesser" divisions of Ohio HS football, with those divisions being based on strength of program, moreso than enrollment. So, what if............
After the 256 teams are determined for the playoffs (6 win teams and 5-4 teams that round out the field) - the divisions are created and based upon playoff point averages, as opposed to enrollment, ie the 32 teams with highest point average constitute Div 1, so on and so on. Would it be perfect, probably not, but it might get us closer to having a Div 1 that is made up of the "most" of the stongest programs in the state.
