Senior Posts: 33 10/13/08 1:16 PM Playoff Maps and Brackets	Tags : playoff projections, playoff maps PLAYOFF MAPS These maps are projections of playoff districts "if the playoffs began today". It is not a prediction of who I think will end up in the playoffs after week 9. I'll leave that for others who enjoy looking at everybody's schedules. I usually wait until AuldSchool posts his projections of teams for each division, but I got a little antsy this week. If he projects different teams, I will likely change the maps accordingly, so check back often! Sterling Hts. Parkway Christian was put back in, since there's been no official word yet from MHSAA about their possible forfeits. Enjoy! Changes Complete overhaul based on Auld School's projections. If you last checked before 11:00 PM tonight (Monday), they've changed. D2-D8 were re-done. Note: Parkway is not included in these projections. D5: Lots of minor movements between districts. Suggested by Mr NCAA. D1: Swapped Det. Cody and Liv. Franklin with Novi and Det. CC D6: Swapped Kalamazoo Christian and Grandville Calvin Christian also Swapped Clinton and Whitmore Lake with Hudson and Addison Last Edited By: Searn 10/19/08 1:47 PM. Edited 6 times.

Sophomore Posts: 42 10/13/08 2:02 PM	Is it going to be possible for either WO or Grand Haven to get in at 5-4? They both have to play Hudsonville, and while VanTubbergen could have a pretty good game against the Hudsonville DBs, I don't see them beating them.

I posted some questions over on Mlive asking about Delasalle and Brother Rice with respect to the Playoff Map. So I won't repeat it here. Look foward to next weeks map as the playoff picture starts to really clear up!

Senior Posts: 160 10/13/08 6:58 PM	Looking ahead through my slightly cloudy crystal ball I think it is unlikely that Zeeland east makes the playoffs as they have two tough games to finish the season. This, based on Snoozes map, would likely put EGR, St. Joe, and Stevensville Lakeshore in the same district. That's three of the top 6 (AP) in one district with nearly a 100 miles travel between them to boot. That just sucks. I wish there was a better way.

I have always felt that the MHSAA's geographic focus makes for a tournament with more energy. People look at me like I'm crazy when I say this, but if I didn't fill out a bracket, I would find the first weekend of the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Tournament pretty dull. Bucknell vs. Texas A&M in Anaheim? Bo-ring. The MHSAA's geographic focus means you might end up playing a great team in the Districts or Regional long before the State Finals. In my mind, that's what makes the tournament an exciting adventure.

Junior Posts: 47 10/13/08 7:13 PM	I think Snooze will be making some changes to the maps, because Auld's breakdown has MCC in D8 among other differences. I think Snooze just uses Auld's Division breaks, so I assume Snooze will be updating these maps sometime tonight.

Yeah and I don't mean to be too "hard" because I do think that, once the geographic groups have been established and travel is being minimized to an extent that is consistent with the educational mission of the teams, it is good to seed the teams within the geographic groups. Football seeds the Districts 1-4, and I think that many other sports (Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer) should look at seeding the Districts as well. A year or two ago, Saginaw HS and Saginaw-Arthur Hill were ranked 1st and 2nd in Boys Basketball and played in the very first District game on a Monday or Tuesday night. I think they SHOULD play in the Districts, but they SHOULDN'T play until the District Final on Friday or Saturday night, if you see my meaning. The MHSAA Football tournament is, in my opinion, ideally organized given this number of teams and Divisions.

Maps will be updating from D3-D8.

Freshmen Unranked Walkon Posts: 4 10/13/08 10:54 PM	If Ida really screws up these next two weeks against Stockbridge and Gross Ille and doesn't make the playoffs, wouldn't it make more sense (based on geography alone) to have the district with: Onsted, Hillsdale, Lumen Battle Creek Pennfield, instead of Onsted, Hillsdale, Lumen and Portland? Just kind of curious. Nice job by the way.

But if you zoom the map up a little, and look at actual travel routes between the schools, it just made sense for me to keep it the way it is.

When I posted the list of 256 'qualifiers' in another thread I explained that there were probably at least two too many D teams. I said it was possible that they (the 10 D teams) make it, I just didn't think it realistic. You've found one. In theory (to be equal to all classes) I should have had 12 D's, but that was impossible because of match ups that by had to eliminate one team.

My guess is D2, since they'd have to move up 3 positions for D1. I don't pay a lot of attention to D1, but I think the line between D1 and D2 is more likely to go slightly up (in attendence) pushing DLS more firmly into D2. Hopefully others will respond with real data. Regarding Brother Rice, the teams with 7-0, 6-0, 6-1, 5-1, 5-2, and 4-2 records were chosen first. There were 207 (or 206 without Parkway, I guess). To fill the final 50 spots, the teams with 4-3 (or 3-3) records were sorted in order of POP avg. for each class, then (roughly) the top 12 teams were chosen from each class. BR has the 3rd best POP avg. of the class A 4-3 teams.

Here's my prediction: If Pickford loses to Cedarville, they will disappear from the maps next week. However if they beat Powers North Central, they'll make the playoffs with a 4-4 record. For teams that play only 8 games, a 4-4 record is treated the same as a 5-4 record of teams that play nine games. In the current projection, Pickford was 2nd in POP avg. of the 4-3 (and 3-3) teams. So, one more win will probably be enough. EDIT: Once again, this is what I get for trying to think. I stand corrected. See Auld's replies above and below. Last Edited By: SnoozeToMe 10/14/08 1:25 AM.
