SOME OF 2007-2008 TEAM ( 9-2,LOST TO D.C.C IN 2 ROUND)
LANSING EVERETT VIKINGS
[1] Star power
Senior quarterback Reggie Williams
is easily the area's scariest offensive player according to opposing coaches. He threw for more than 1,400 yards, ran for nearly 600, and accounted for a
combined 20 touchdowns in 2007.
Senior running back Devon Beauford ran for 1,040 yards and 17 touchdowns. On the other side of the ball, senior safety Lavelle Walker was a State Journal
all-area Dream Team selection after helping key last year's 9.2-points-per-game defensive effort.
[2] More O to go
Williams again will have senior all-league honorable mention receivers
Adarius Beard and
Michael Frisbie at his disposal, with protection from returning line starters senior Dustin Schrauben and junior Matt Meyers.
[3] Learning curve
Walker and senior cornerback John Ross give
the Vikings a good start in the defensive backfield, and senior Anthony Wallace is back at end. But a number of inexperienced players must learn quickly to
bolster the unit. Senior lineman Mike Getz (5-foot-11, 280 pounds) brings size. Senior linebacker Tim Foster also will be key.
[4] Seeing Red
Everett won't have a nonleague break facing CAAC Red favorites Sexton and St. Johns on the road and opening with improved Waverly.
LAST YEAR
Statement season
The Vikings won a school-record nine games (9-2 overall) after winning a combined five in 2005 and 2006. Everett also won its second playoff game ever, riding
a combination of an uptempo offense and reckless defense that outscored opponents 27-9 on average. A 28-21 loss to Holt in the area's biggest
regular-season game dropped the Vikings to second place in the final league standings.
