TV Coverage in West MI expanding |

Local TV coverage of HS Football grows even larger this year as Fox17 expands it's coverage to pregame in an hour long broadcast from 5-6, live from the
game of the week, incuding roundups of all the big games in the area. Very cool.

This is going to be awesome, too bad it is on before many people get home from work to watch it. It reminds me of the old TV 13 game of the week, where they
did the live weather segments for the 6 o'clock news at the 'game of the week' venue. It is terrific anytime the media shows up and promotes high
school sports.
A big tip of my favorite old EK hat to the gang at Fox TV 17 (aka channel 5 on Comcast). GO EK!! |

Sounds Great!
I'm hoping they expand the Detroit area coverage to 15 seconds of highlights on Friday night!

We are truely spoiled in TV coverage for HS Football here in GR. All three major TV stations have at least 30 miuntes of HS FB and some even go an hour. They
have in studio guests from winning teams, cheerleaders, even marching bands in studio to play into commercials. Sort of the small town flavor to it all.

Of course I did bring some change to channel 13 a couple of years ago. I happened to talk to one of the program people for them and that was funny. Kinda made
him rethink some things since I am always apear knowlegable even when I ramble.

Searn makes an intesting point that I shared with some of my buddies in the gym. Most of us are empty nesters or nearly so. We all live here in west Michigan
because we chose to. A major draw to this side of the state is that our community here in GR is large enough to have most of the benefits of a large
metropolitan area, and yet small enough to have the intimacy of a smaller community. High School sports is huge here all year round, and the local media,
including the electronic media have picked up on that and for years have highlighted/featured highschool sports in their sports reports as well as special
features. We still get al the state and national sports stuff, it is just the local media are willing to expand thier broacast time and dedicate 30 to 60
minutes to local sports. Very cool, unless you aren't a sports fan, in which case you can always turn the channel :-)

Yep, it's different on the West Side, EKDad, No doubt about it. 28th St reminds me of the Metro Det Area though. Definitely FB Mecca as far as MI goes.
It's been pointed out before, but I agree with concept that there are more ah, *distractions* in the Metro Det area, for HS FB to be as big a draw.
So what is Lansing? West Side or East Side? Reason I ask is because they too have more HS FB coverage than Det stations provide. I was talking to a Detroit Catholic Central Alunus at the Lansing Sexton playoff game last year. He actually was a produceer for one of the local affiliates there, and said they typically provided 15 minutes of HS FB coverage. I don't know if that was for playoffs or the regular season as well. |

Mt. Pleasant, Lansing, Jackson and Battle Creek are considered Central Michigan.
