I see Menominee and Dakota as clear favorites, with great coaching, and the way they have played overall probably won't allow for a let down. (Dakota
can't turn it over this week though)
However, I don't know much about King or Midland other than that this matchup in the finals probably wasn't expected by too many people. King probably has more talent, but I'm not sure who the favorite would be in the first place. |

Again only three choices. Aren't there eight games being played next weekend?

Well Blissfield over NCC for starters. Mendon over TCSF could be considered on as well I guess. Surely OLSM is the favorite over EGR right? I would think if
you call King a favorite then OLSM could be as well. Not real sure about the Marine City vs. DCD match-up.

evenly matched in my opinion to post them as upsets either way. Make your own poll of "upsets" if you want.

MahatmaG wrote: DO NOT!!!!!! let NCC's record fool you they are very legit. Yes I would consider it an up set. I think a few more here in this forum would as well. Do a little research and you will see NCC 3 losses have came against TCSF, DCD both still playing I may add and MCC who lost to Mendon in the regional final nevermind the fact they are the defending state champs in D-6. Who has Blissfield played that can compair to these teams? As far as OLSM yes many for weeks have said they are the favortie in D-3. So would EGR winning be an upset maybe but surely OLSM is no more of a favorite than King is are they? Hell nobody every thought King or Midland would be where they are at. I am not sure how anyone could call one the favorite over the other at this point. |

My upset games tend to be substantiated as upsets when the Freep and DetNews staffers make their picks. We'll see on Thursday. I would guess the games I
chose as possible "upsets" will have clear favorites when those folks make their picks...probably 5 or 6/6 all choosing the same team. I'm
betting EGR-OLSM will be 3/3 or 4/6 only. As for SNCC,you are right in that they played a tough schedule...but they LOST to those three teams you mentioned.
Blissfield played a tough schedule too, including FIVE playoff teams in the regular season, BEATING THEM ALL. I don't just post games for potential upset
without any rhyme or reason. I study it extensively first. These three I chose are the only games that can possibly qualify as upsets in my opinion.

This is what I come up with percentage wise for Tom's group for 180 picks with all the picks involving metro Detroit teams: Tom Markowski = .739 Beard = .661 Twentyman = .656 Goricki = .622 Goodwill = .561 I am not sure I would take much stock in what these folks say but, if you want to go ahead. Markowski is the only one over 70%.

I'm with you on the NCC game ... IF Blissfield can beat them, it is an upset. I don't think it'll happen.
Nouvel has too much experience, plays a tough schedule, and is a physical and extremely fundamental team. They also have some pretty good coaching. I have them down easily as favorites. |

You guys may be right. In fact, I think SNCC will beat Blissfield, but I don't think they'll be favored by "professional prognosticators" as
overwhelmingly as you might suggest. We'll find out in the next few days. Who is the best team NCC beat this year, regular season or playoffs? Check out
the teams Blissfield has beat and you'll see 9 of their 13 victories were over playoff teams.

Mendon v TCSF | #11 | ||

GHS I have to disagree with this game being an upset possibility; these teams are too evenly matched. If you look at the raw total season numbers Mendon is the
favorite on defense, TCSF on offense, and the only edge I think TCSF has is an edge in positive press clippings. Nouvel is the only quality win they have IMO
(but a BIG quality win), and the loss to SB is troubling as well. Of course, these were Weeks 1 and 2, so they are a different team now for sure. Plowing
through R1 and R2 doesn't always equate being ready for the winner of R3 and R4 though.
I just feel (and this is totally biased, although substantiated with Mendon's multiple state titles) that football south of GR is tougher than football north of GR. In my mind, Mendon should be the favorite (record, schedule, defensive numbers, not to mention POP), but in the minds of the press TCSF has the flashy names and numbers on offense to win this thing. Should be a great one. |

Notice I said could be considered one. I think TCSF is the better team this year. I have no doubt that the Hornets a capable of winning this one. They are a well coached physical football team. I just do not think Mendon has the horses to take this one however time will tell. I have seen them on film this year and they will be by far the best team you have seen this year they are a bigger faster version of MCC. You guys will need to play far better than you did vs. MCC to beat them. Good luck to the Hornets. |

I think Mendon will have to play their best game of the season to beat TCSF. I don't think they played their best football against any team this postseason
with the exception of last week's game vs Sand Creek.
On offense, the passing game will HAVE to be there this week; that means if a guy is open he has to catch the ball. No picks. This is the only way we will be able to open up the run on TCSF. On defense, Mendon has to stop SF's running game and force them to throw. I know Ambrosius only has 1 or 2 INTs on the season, but this is HS, and especially at the D7 level if you throw too much you will have a pick, especially against this Mendon defense. Even if Mendon loses this one, I think it will be very very close. Schwartz always has these boys prepared though, and if there is one clear advantage Mendon has in the finals it is coaching. |

They had a nice record I know but they had no idea what was waiting for them Saturday in Vicksburg. Mendon had beaten 3 or 4 teams already this year that are better than SC.That might be true, but I don't think Mendon was firing on all cylinders on offense against Centreville, on defense against Cass, and on offense again against MCC. I thought the game against Sand Creek was the first playoff game where they had both working well. MCC's defense certainly had a lot to do with Mendon's lack of offensive production, but there were a lot of dropped balls when Mendon had a man open and got the ball to an open receiver that could have potentially helped with the lack of points. As it was, they got what they needed out of their defense and hung on for the win. Let me ask you this, since you've seen tape on SF: What is so superior about this team vs. Mendon? Speed, size, depth, all of the above? How about coaching? |

Glantern44 wrote: They are faster. I am not that sure they are that much bigger than Mendon but they are all well conditioned athletes. So there are no fat boys. Depth? Yes I think they have you there they have five or six backs that can carry the ball well. They also dressed close to 40 kids in the regular season. I give Mendon the nod in the coaching department. I would never count out a John Schwartz coached football team. |

GHSfootball1990 wrote:Thanks for the honest answer; its good to hear from someone who has seen both teams and can compare the two realistically. I'm not trying to be contradictory but I just think Mendon has more of a shot in this game than some are giving them credit for. It seems like more often than not Mendon ends up facing teams that have advantages on them physically, but discipline and coaching seem to help them overcome these issues. Again, great hearing your insights into this matchup. |

Just wondering what your thoughts on TCSF vs Mendon are now after seeing the game? Do you think your original analysis was correct on SF being superior to
Mendon in all of the categories we discussed, or do you think it was just lack of execution on TCSF's part that lost them this game?
Personally I wasn't that impressed with their passing game; taking that out of the equation played right into Mendon's hands just like I thought it would. I also think had Baker had a bit more time in the pocket we could have lit up the scoreboard a bit more. Still, 20-0 means your team flat out beat the other one IMO. |

Mendon's QB missed two wide open targets in the game that I watched today with no pressure on him.
FSD is now doing the EGR vs. OLSM from the beginning (previously they showed the live OT action from the start time). I'll stay up to see how long it runs so I can add extra time to the game. |
