Metro Conference Expansion |
Lead | ||
|
With Clawson leaving the Metro, should the Metro seek to replace them. Should the conference seek to expand? Who would be interested? Right now, the Metro has:
Class B Lutheran North, Clarenceville, Hamtramck, and Cranbrook. Class C Harper Woods and Lutheran Northwest and Class D Lutheran Westland and Liggett...a
strange mix. Could you expand to 12 or 16 teams and try to balance out the C's and D's? Do you need to expand? Does this mix hurt the big schools who
claim that the lack or competition impairs them in the playoffs, if so perhaps more B schools should be added...So many things to think about...

I really think this conference has to be split in half. That's option 1 for me:
They should probably add three teams -- something like 1 more B team, and 2 either C or D. Split the conference in half -- Division 1 = North, Clarenceville, Hamtramck, Cranbrook, NEW TEAM Division 2 = Harper, Northwest, Westland, NEW TEAM, NEW TEAM Teams would play everyone in their division, and two crossovers every year. Three non cons to schedule, which gives schools more control over competition they face. Re align the thing every so often, if HW and Hamtramck need to be switched, or whatever will keep things competitive. It gives small schools the chance to schedule 3 non cons of their choosing, and only face 2 of the big schools in D 1. Allows big D 1 schools to accrue more playoff points by playing only 2 small teams and scheduling 3 bigger non cons. Its all I can come up with at the moment. And be honest -- teams aren't exactly knocking down the door to get INTO the Metro. This conference could fall apart before too long ... |

I like it except I would probably just throw Hamtramck down to the 2nd Division and put Harper in Division 1. I think it should be set up with a conference
title game at the end. Unless that is one of the crossovers you have factored in already.

Please,Please,Please, dont hammer me on my question...Other than schools like Redford Covanant, Parkway Christian, and Summit Acadamy, who would join the
Metro? This is an honest question..Im not in anyway demeaning your league

It is a great question because the honest answer is that probably no one truly wants in. It isn't exactly a football powerhouse. Other candidates include:
Southfield Christian University Prep Dearborn Heights Annapolis Those three have been mentioned before but it doesn't seem anything serious is in the works. This conference is much more likely to exist struggling in its present state, or just flat out disband, than it is to add anyone right now. I don't have a problem with the question at all Tommy, that's exactly the biggest problem the Metro faces. |

Excellent question by Tommy.
Detroit Urban Lutheran is somewhat of an odd fit for the Catholic League. Detroit University Prep and Warren Connor Creek are independents. There are some schools that are a bit smaller than the rest of their conference (e.g., New Haven, River Rouge, Madison Heights Madison) that might prefer to play elsewhere. Country Day is an independent, but they don't seem like a good fit to me. I don't have a good sense of what the conference might be looking for in the way of compatible schools. I have a hard time seeing any sort of major expansion in the works. |

Here's just a thought... I think it would be a good thing if the Catholic Inter-sectional leagues disbanded and some kind of "Private School
Conference" was made.
That would make 15 private schools or 18 schools if they wanted to grandfather Harper Woods- Hamtramck & Clarencville in. If not invite the likes of Summit (500 kids) or Parkway (210 kids). To make an even number. Could split the secionals like this = Section I: Cranbrook (770) Notre Dame Prep (737) Lutheran North (636) Clarenceville (630) A.A. Richard (500) Riverview Richard (442) Bishop Foley (427) Harper Woods (395) Section II: Cabrini (359) Loyola (316) Lutheran Northwest (308) Shrine (307) Lutheran Westland (231) W.O.L.L. (199) Cardinal Mooney (173) * Pick from Urban (118) / Taylor L&L (90) or Hamtramck (1006) Who ever doesn't get in will just have to join the Southern Michigan Football Conference! ;-) Hamtramck is the only school that could honestly field other competitive sports teams boys/girls in that division -Taylor L&L might even close soon! *With 8 teams in each you can still have non-conference games / cross-over games or a championship game. I think this would allow for more competitive games among schools with the same size and help a lot to prepare for the Playoffs. Although Harper kinda gets shafted with its enrollment they normally have athletic teams that could compete I just solved all our problems -- now someone get on the phone with Vic Micheals and make it so! LoL
