Coach of the Year/ Offensive and Defensive MVP's |

I think that the coach from Hamtramck should be the coach of the year. The fact that he has not had a nervous breakdown, the fact that he is always positive
and it looks like he is always teaching during the game, would suggest to me that he is either a Saint or Crazy? I'll vote for Saint!! Offensive MVP: is
this for the best player or the one most important to his team? North has so many weapons, how do you pick one? Harper's line was very good? Without
Appeah? (Not sure on spelling,) Cranbrook would have been in big trouble...I guess he gets my vote. Can the MVP come off a losing team? Defensive MVP: Again
not too many single players standout...interested to hear imput on this one...

Offensive MVP: You would have to include Vincent Bright #2 HW as a possiblity. Dushawn Brandy RB from Clawson. Robby Schneider QB at North who made that
offense work. Kojo Appiah from Cranbrook. Rob Feeman the QB from Clawson.
Defensive MVP: Nate Myers NW 107 tackles, Mitch Farrington LN 98 Tackles, Jordan Buuck LN 7 INTs, Casey Schoff NW with 7.5 sacks |

If we had a coach of the year I would have to go with Heath Filber from Harper - I would of never thought beginning the season without Lofton Jackson that
their offense would be so good especially starting a lot of underclassmen.
His defense was more disciplined than I have seen in years and they didn't make a lot of mistakes as in the past. Offensive MVP : I would first say Vince Bright from Harper- he was a load to bring down and you can tell he worked hard in the off-season and got a lot stronger. Jesse Beebe LN was a tough runner and read his blocks well out of the spread. Brandy CL didn't impress me much he got knocked out of the NW game and didn't do so hot in a few games > Crippen I thought was a better back and WR. Appiah CK took himself out a lot during games he didnt seem to be real tough just had a lot of speed. Defensive MVP: Paluch from Harper - although he didnt have a ton of tackles he was the main run stopper in that 4-3 D they had he could plug holes tackle to tackle very hard to get a piece of. Nate Myers (NW) although the team's QB he seemed to always be better on defensive than offensive - he shut down most teams #1 recievers and had a nose for the ball to get in on every tackle. Tom Pellegrinni HW was one of the better D linemen in the conference and was hard to block. And if i am going to include Myers I should also say that Gainer was a force to be reckoned with on defense when he wasn't sucking air on the sideline. That kid was a heck of an athlete and made some fantastic plays on either INT's, tackles or big hits. If he didn't have to try to do everything for the whole team he might of had the energy to play most of the game.

I don't believe that the Metro even gives out that award do they? If you are just speculating for fun, then I'm a firm believer in the coach of the
team that wins it all ...HW - Filber!

Ok. I might take some heat from this, but I like to give credit where credit is due.
Coach of the year - Heath Filber. His plays sometimes seem to make me question his football knowledge, but his team is 9-0, and you can't do that without a head coach. He calls the offensive plays, and without Lofton - Jackson, according to maxpreps.com, his team is 1st in Michigan at 41.9 ppg. Thats also 24th in the country. Not a bad year Heath, not a bad year. Defensive MVP - I want to go with Vincent Bright, since he explodes off the ball and puts pressure on the quarterback so quickly, but I have to go with Tom Pellegrini, the other end for Harper. Teams seem to run away from Vincent and into Tom, and I have to say, Mr. Pellegrini has sure come to play this year. He's a big part of that defense. He deserves it. And by the way, he made the tackle against North to stop them short of a first down by approx. 1 yard, forcing them to attempt the field goal. Good job Tom. Offensive MVP - The obvious pick is Vincent Bright. He's rushed for almost 1100 yds, and is a man amongst boys when being tackled. He's a main ingredient when it comes to that offense that Harper Woods has. Robby Schneider has been good, along with Richie Beebe, Kojo and Dushawn Brady from Clawson, but they're not on Mr. Bright's level just yet. With all this being said, just take a look at these stats, and tell me what you think. Rob Freeman - Clawson
Zack Bobowski - Cranbrook
Robby Schneider - North
Anthony Bevere - Harper Woods
Now, after looking at these stats, why not talk about Anthony Bevere. He leads the highest scoring offense in Michigan, his completion % is the highest, along with his QB rating, yet he has attempted a considerable number of fewer passes. His stats weren't " outstanding " because Mr. Brights were. But to lead an offense like this, as the quarterback, he has to be given consideration for offensive mvp, correct me if I'm wrong. Therefor, Good luck Vince on the offensive mvp, and Good luck Mr. Bevere as well. You two deserve it! |

I think coach of the year has to be Coach Fiber from Harper Woods. A great season for the Pioneers. He really pulled those guys together and made them the best they may have ever been with an undefeated season. Offensive MVP also has to be a Pioneer. Their offense was very powerful this year. I would give it to their RB Vincent Bright. Fast. Strong. Hard to bring down. Defesnive MVP could be the whole Pioneer Defense. They only allowed 83 points all year. It doesn't matter how easy there schedule is, that is still very impressive. Second to that in the conference was Lutheran North with 145. |

Never been a big Harbor woods fans. Saw them play this year those kids had by far the best talent in the league. Coach of the year would go Harbor woods coach
because of the record. I also liked the idea of Hamtramks coach he always has a bad season but never gives up on his kids. Or Norths coach after losing so much
talent from the year before and still having a good season.
Offense MVP without a doubt goes to that number 2 from harbor woods. The next possible option would maybe be dorflinger from north always saw his name and looked to make big plays in the games i saw. |

MVP's Offense : first of all that Dorflinger had 1 reception per game except for the Clawson game, the only thing that kid was good at was
shooting his mouth off in-between plays.
*I would have to say that Bright from Harper should get it.The games I saw him play he ran hard and always broke a few tackles on every carry. That Brandy from Clawson was alright but seen him go down with injuries a few times and then Beebe from North impressed me with his tough runs. Defense: Although Northwest had a dissapointing season - the strong-side LB for northwest Myers always seemed to have good defensive games he was either in on every tackle or shuting down his man on passes. He wasn't that good of a QB but a heck of a defensive player. Dominic Paluch for harper woods also impressed me, he made a lot of good plays and big hits for the pioneers. He was also a solid passing target to throw to. |

and by the way. if mr. Bevere attempted as many passes as Freeman, he would be on pace for 2700 yds and 36 tds. Just some stats i figured out that I thought i should throw in there. |

Paasing wasn't Harper's game though - Bevere normally had wide open targets because of their great ground game and Filbur was good setting up the
play-action passes. Harper never really had to count on Bevere's passing to win any games - most games weren't close or their running game dominated.
Bevere was good don't get me wrong - but not that great of QB.

What do you use for criteria for selecting coach of the year? Wins? Coaching strategies? Ability to motivate kids? Ability to get the most out of his
players? Play calling ability? Football knowledge of the game? The reason I ask is because you may have a talent laden team that wins it all in spite of
the coach. You may have a team that doesn't have the "studs" that wins more games than they should and it is because of the coach. Who deserves
"coach of the year"? My humble opinion is that you give it to the coach that wins it all, but it does make one wonder and ponder.

I don't mean to take the sheen off of Harper Woods accomplishments, but averaging 41 points against the teams they played is not that big a deal. I
don't know, because I wasn't at their games, but did they leave their starters in late into the game? Did they run up scores? Did they press for
shutouts. The better teams in the Metro averaged 26 points a game against them. Were they far ahead of opponents at half and keep in their starters? Did
they put their starters back in to prevent teams from scoring? I'm not saying they did and would hope that they didn't.

to answer your question shark, the defensive starters for Harper Woods played 2 full games. North and Clawson. Besides that they were out at halftime, or very
early into the 3rd quarter. As bad as it looks, they did the exact opposite of running up the scores, and the scores you see are mostly scores put up in the
1st half by Harper Woods.

So metroconf2008 let me get this straight, HW beat 7 teams (outside of North & Clawson) that won a total 14 games or 2 per team. Is that right?

if thats you're argument then stick to that. but dont say Harper ran up the scores by keeping their starters in all game. Thats not what happened.

There is NO Coach of the year anyway in the Metro so all of this is a moot point! Someone brought it up so people responded to it.

I had another though for Defense MVP. Jeremy Gainer had 93 tackles, 9 forced fumbles, and 4 interceptions.

It'd be hard to argue with that. He was a talented player on a team that just couldn't get the job done. I remember watching him against NW. He was all
over the field.

Coach of the year should definitally go to Heath Filber. His team has had a great year.
Offensive MVP: No one can compare to Bright in offensive production, he was a great runner for a great HW offense. Defensive MVP: Nate Myers NW, Mitch Farrington LN, Jordan Buuck LN, Tom Pellegrinni HW |
