For Boeing747 to compare Stanton with a Bobby Douglass is a joke since Douglass only completed 43% of his lifetime passes in the NFL:
Plus Bobby's yards per pass and TD to INT ratios are much to be desired as well.

I didn't think it was a necessary pick at the time but I'm going along with the Stanton thing I just decided. I think Drew has some intangibles that
you can't teach and has enough physical ability to have a nice NFL career assuming he can make smart decisions and make it though a 16 game NFL season.
Here's to Stanton to Johnson ... woo woo 
Every player has some negatives going into the league ... hopefully for once the Lions can just find a way to utilize their positive attributes. |

I would love it if Stanton worked out and became a competent starter in a couple of years, but I just have questions about his ability to make all of the NFL
throws. I probably had the same questions about Brady when he got drafted, so I should probably hold my judgement. Nonetheless, I still think drafting him in
the second round was a reach.
I also agree with Searn that Posluszny and/or Harris would have been a good second round choice if the Lions had stayed in their slot and not traded down. I heard that Harris was not a fit for the Lions Tampa Two defense. Hey, all the kid did in college was run around and make plays. Posluszny was the same way. Given the Lions suspect linebacker corp, I think the Lions blew a chance to solidify the position somewhat. I also had hoped the Lions would pick up Buster Davis (Florida State) with a third round pick. He's undersized, but every time I saw Florida State play, he was all over the field, absolutely trashing opposing players. I loved his style of play. I will be watching his career with the Cardinals very closely. I do think Calvin Johnson will be a solid contributor to the Lions. I don't think anyone considers the Georgia Tech staff as world beaters (or the Lions staff, for that matter), but hopefully with some guidance from Martz and friends, he will become a very productive and possibly Pro Bowl type of receiver. One thing I noticed while browsing CBS Sportsline (sorry didn't save link) during the draft on the Lions draft choices, it looks like they are 'Marinelli' type players. Constant reference to work habits, tape watcher, etc. A couple with very good speed for their position, looked to be a very promising group. I'd say B to B+ because I think Calvin Johnson may actually pay off. They all have holes - as someone above referred to CJ's con features, but it does sound like he is more of a Mark Martz offensive player - but the experts have to find holes. I'd love to see the pre-draft scouting report on Joe Montana. CBS was very up on CJ's work (at least study habits) so maybe he won't be a Charles Rogers/Mike Williams. Hey, third times the charm… ? |
