I am doing the 2009 NCAA Power Underdogs and am around one third done right now. Boise State leads through letter C currently. We'll see what that says
when I get through, I will list the top 5 teams for the Power Underdogs.

Can you cite a source saying that Georgia Tech was better than either Penn State or Ohio State in 2008?

Here are the "elite" teams in the 2009 Power Underdogs (going 5 deep, but due to tie there's 6 listed). Wins over non NCAA D1A teams were taken
out plus 2 other adjustments. There used to be 4 adjustments, but the actual NCAA organization eliminated one for me a while back (won't say what they
did). Everyone knows that I take out those non D1A wins or don't count them in the power ratings so that shouldn't be a shocker when I did that for
this project. The real list of power underdogs is longer than this list. The correct list as a whole wins 70%+ as a home underdog. Sorry, but LSU isn't
even in the top 6. I had a feeling that this was the case when I made my earlier comment.

Here are the bottom 5 teams on my list:
I know that it isn't really fair for Western Kentucky to be the bottom team since they've only been playing with the big boys for two years, but schools have to start somewhere. |

I was with AP up until Penn State ... I wouldn't have them that high
LSU was down in 2008, another year like that 2009 would probably take them off my list. Miami and ND are quite a ways from being in the elite group ... right now are trying to prove them belong with the "good" teams let alone elite or very good .... A BCS bowl from either Notre Dame or Miami this coming season would be a good indication in my mind that they are on their way back to at least the next group of teams below "elite" ... but they still have a lot to prove. I wouldn't be surprised if a few years from now we see Alabama take over the spot that LSU currently holds. I didn't have an exact time frame in my head when I said "right now" ... since about 2002 or 2003 is what sticks out in my head as "recent"

Mr NCAA wrote:I wasn't saying they were better, I said they would have both teams on the ropes if they played. I dont think the Big Ten is really all that deep to be honest. They are slightly above the Big East as far as ranking the BCS conferences. The top conferences are the SEC, Pac 10, than Big 12 South. |

NCAA, if you dont count wins over non D1A teams, does that mean you wont count losses against them either? YES I KNEW IT! Michigan never lost to Appalacian
State, i knew it was a nightmare!

Basically I disregard the wins and losses against the non D1A when I do the power ratings. If a teams loses to them, it usually shows up in other games.
I should have said the my Power Underdogs wins 70%+ against the final pointspread, not ouright wins. All the adjustments have to do with putting teams on an equal basis. I'm done arguing since the Power Underdogs is "recent" as well (probably more recent than what Searn is suggesting). |

One other point to keep in mind when people say that the Big 10 conference was overrated last year. Based on Sagarin's ratings the conference did as
expected in the Bowl Games whether one wants to ackowledge that particular fact or not:
# 22 Iowa beat # 38 South Carolina #8 Penn State lost to #2 USC #14 Ohio State lost to #4 Texas #33 Michigan State lost to #15 Georgia #44 Northwestern lost to #19 Missouri #61 Wisconsin lost to #17 Florida State #75 Minnesota lost to #31 Kansas So how can a conference be overrated when they performed as expected during the Bowl Games? If one wants to just count the Bowl Games last year, the PAC 10 went a perfect 5 - 0 so they were better than the SEC based on the bowl won loss record.

I don't think the big 10 was overrated ... because I don't think people had it highly rated in the first place.
I agree they had tough Bowl matchups. .... but the reason they got those tough matchups were because teams that matched up with them based on standings (give or take) from other conferences were better teams ... showing that it wasn't a very tough conference.
