2009 MHSAA Enrollments
My comments/observations/questions
+ OLSM is the largest Class B school in 2009 ... do they choose to "play up" to D2 or stay in D3?
+ Inkster at 1,133 is nearly the projected 1,200 ... but they will be D2 in 2009

I am very surprised that the enrollment number for Class A is that low at 987. Does anyone know if that is the lowest it has been or has it been lower than
that before? Also, I'm guessing that number is reflective of the fact much more people are moving out of Michigan than moving into the state.

Boeing747 wrote: Exactly. The number of students the state has lost is about 10,000+. It's very unfortunate and the main reason why a good 75% of the teachers that are graduating right now are going out of state. Kent County alone has lost 1,360 (Over $10 million lost in the Kent ISD as a result) students and we're a county that's actually somewhat growing at like .4%. I can't even imagine what the Detroit area is looking like. I don't really have the time to look into it, but when you have 987 as the Class A limit number, I can imagine it's not looking good over there either. |

Flint Southwestern had their enrollment cut down hard, as they are back to being an application only school.

I had a bigger reply but it didn't go through at least according to my computer so I'll do an abreviated version.
Pi Hi lost its #1 SEN number and the Maples are lower as well. I have a summer for both the football and non football schools from the 2008 - 2009 season so I'll see what that says on the difference when I start on the average division breakpoints soon. I have quite a few high school bb finals to watch today and tomorrow besides those NCAA elite 8 games. Thanks Searn for posting the link since it wasn't there when I went to the MHSAA website the other day. |

Inkster will be a borderline D2 or D3 team. The school number has them below the average number by a few while the SEN would make them D3. So for now I'm
projecting them in as a D2 team until we get some won loss results in for the first 3 weeks.

Just saw on mLive that West Mich Christian is going to join North Muskegon again as a co-op. Sounds like they were partnered before with less than great results and it lapsed for a few years. |
