Well, prestige-wise...I would think he could have easily landed a job as an assistant at an NCAA school...maybe a WMU or CMU if one was open...

Let us hope that he doesn't change his mind once again and go back to the Big Reds if they can't find a decent coach.

Guys, Grand Rapids Community College is a former national champion and the only CC in the state with a football program. TA is a terrific fit for this job. The
majority of the kids playing fb there have academic performance issues, and go to CC to get grades up so they can transefer to a 4 year school... or at least
that is their hope! TA is a master motivator, working with kids from all walks of life and not only turns out great fb players, he turns out great young men
and good students who otherwise would fall to the wayside with ineligbility. At CC he doesn't have to work year round with the younger grades, keeping them
interested in school, athletics, and helping them stay out of trouble. TA and his family work hard at helping out kids in the community of Muskegon 365. This
job doesn't require all of this, and, he gets to work with some of the best athletes in the state! A new set of challenges and exciting future for him and
his staff.
The OK Red, a cradle of awesome HOF or future HOF fb coaches, will miss TA and his incredible teams. TA and coaches like him, help make the OK the finest fb league in the state. So, here is a tip of my favorite old EK hat to one of the finest high school coaches and teachers of youg men, Tony Annese. Best wishes in your new job at GRCC. GO EK! |

You are 100 percent correct Great Hire for GRCC, very good football team, that has several College level players looking to improve their grades and move to a 4 year college if possible. He will improve the focus of the team and the students on making something of this opportunity not just Athletically but Academically as several players need the focus on the team, instead of treating this like another chance to play FB. Musky will miss him, alot of talent there but that was not the only reason for the success, it was the years of building a community and a focus that the school district on that shows these last several years. Lets hope it does not fade away without his influence. |

If the OK Red is the Michigan equivalent of Miami Ohio (cradle of coaches), then Munger and Tony would have started their careers in the league LOL!!! BTW the
standards to make the Michigan high school football coaches association HOF isn't that great. Just need a slightly above average team and do it for 20
years. The MHSFCA should set new standards since these aren't that good IMHO.
Sorry Searn I noticed that I meant aren't instead are.

Okay Mr NCAA - my point being the coaches in the OK, especially the Red, are all journeymen who have proven themselves over the long haul. When one of them
leaves, there is a big hole and big shoes to fill. When one leaves, they are missed by everyone in the league, not just thier school. TA will be missed on
Firday nights!

I can agree on the last statement. Whenever good programs even outside the OK Red have their head coach leave/retire/ etc., it leaves a big hole to fill.

Mr NCAA wrote: That part I agree with. While it's a credit to the guys who put in the time to work with the kids for 20+ years ... I'm sure many could go through the list and pick out some coaches that are average or even below average at best.
Interested in where MHSAA players will be playing at the next level and/or college football in
general?

I would like to see a formula that acknowledges that playoff wins are important, too besides the regular season wins.
I'm sure that Al and Tom will be missed by their respective teams when they retire. |

It would have been a better move if it had been Catholic Central. Why would he want to coach at the JC level. Seems like a home for ordinary coaches. Anesse
had a lot going for him/ Lots of job opportunities, if he had to get out of Muskegon. As an outsider, it seems like a strange move to me.

This is a terrific job. It is a unique job. The pay is good, he keeps his retirement package, this school is the only community college in Mi, OH and IN that
plays football. This school has been national champions in the past. And he doesn't have to move. He gets to work with a ton of great athletes from a dozen
states (see my post above). This is a heck of lot better job then DCC, or anyother highschool. Yes, he might have been able to move on to struggling GLIAC
school. This is a great way to get your feet wet in college.

I saw the Muskegon job posting in a Detroit paper today ... I wonder what areas they are getting applicants from?

He was not quite making 100k (but almost) but I was wrong about the money part. He will actually be taking about a 9k pay cut.

BIGREDS89 wrote: It was definitely more of a 'looking to the future' move on his part than for the money. Turn around GRCC and you have D2 knocking on your door. He'd do well at Northwood and after a couple more seasons like they just had last year I'm sure the job will be open. Succeed in D2 and then D1 comes knockin. |
