My opinion. under a horrible system I think Utah deserves a shot .... but I also think USC is the best team in college football.
Interested in where MHSAA players will be playing at the next level and/or college football in
general?

I dont think Oklahoma should have been in the Championship game in teh first place.
Both Texas and Florida beat OU on a neutral field by 10. USC had the best team in my opinion, followed by Florida and Texas. Utah deserved a shot just because they had 0 losses and whooped up on Alabama worse than the National Champions did.

It's tough for Utah ....
What else can they do? When they scheduled Michigan they had no idea they would have such a down year. They beat Oregon State (#18) who nearly won the Pac 10. They beat 4 teams in the final Top 25. (two top 10) #6 #7 #18 #25 But I guess it's not any worse than when Auburn when 14-0 out of the SEC and didn't get anything ... or Penn State back in 1994. As much as I love the college football regular season .... I only cared to sit and really watch maybe 5 Bowls ... the bowls to me are basically meaningless unless your team is playing.

Utah improved a ton over the course of the season.
Week 1 against Michigan they obviously looked good, but never would I have thought they would run the table, stomp the 2nd place SEC team, and be thrown around in arguments regarding the best team in the country. Remember, Michigan almost came back and beat them that game. They were a lot more impressive beating Alabama than Florida was, IMO.

I have a few weeks of the AOPR to do including the bowls. Then, I will publish the 2008 AOPR final ratings in the college football area provide the yuku
doesn't give me a hard time. This weekend it probably won't get done plus next week tentatively won't get done either most likely as I have plans.
Florida played The Citadel which disqualifies them for national championship material in my subjective ratings. However, it will be interesting to see what
the AOPR says since I don't count such games in my objective ratings.

As much as i want to vote for USC, i think that their loss to Oregon State was worse than Florida's loss to Mississippi State. USC strength of schedule is
14. Florida's 4. Utah is 56. Now you tell me who is the better team.

Florida lost in the Swamp, USC lost in Corvallis where its not very easy to win.
If Florida and USC line up today, I have no doubt in my mind that USC would take care of business. Florida struggled to score for a majority of the game against a very pedestrian Oklahoma defense. Tebow would not be able to run at will with Maualuga, Cushing, and Mays waiting to take his head off. Everyone talks about Florida's speed on offense, but USC's defense is very fast.

eagleCHAMP05 wrote: I am not so sure about that Eagle. One of the other things you have to consider is that Florida is a straight up triple option team. Yeah they run it from the gun but it is still triple and it still forces a defense to play assignment football and I don't care how fast a D is when you get them playing assignment football they slow down. Another thing is that I think Oklahoma's defense is alot better than they get credit for, I know the stats are not all that great but OU's defense has played ALOT because of OU's hurry up offense and that will skew the defensive stats.

BIGREDS89 wrote:Yes, but these arent just your everyday defensive players on the USC squad. A majority of the players are seniors who are projected pretty high in the draft. I mean, Maualuga, Cushing, Mays, Ellison, Moala, Pinkard. All of these guys are veteran players with great speed. Just ask Oregon. Florida is made up of a lot of Frosh and Sophomore players. Let's not forget that USC has a very underrated offense as well. They made OSU and Penn State's defenses look average. Granted, Florida held OU to only 14 points, but a lot of that was OU not being able to do anything in the red zone. Idk, its just my opinion, but I think USC was the best team in the country this year who played one bad game on the road and payed the price for it for the rest of the season.

No doubt eagle it is very arguable. I am biased/lean towards Meyer but USC is tough and it would have been nice to see a Florida USC matchup. Playoffs NOW
darnit.

Team 1. a team who beat the #1, #1, #4, #6, #25.
Team 2. a team who beat the #5, #8, #21, #23 Team 3. a team who beat the #4, #12, #14. Team 1 won their confrence outright. Team 2 won their confrence when the team they lost to lost. Team 3 won their non-bcs confrence outright. 1. Florida 2. USC 3. Utah In my mind Utah shouldnt even be considered the number one team. Can they play with the Floridas or USCs? yes, but they are not the #1 team. USC, if Oregon State would have beaten Oregon, USC wouldnt have even won their confrence at 11-1. Florida's only loss came against ole miss at the swamp, but they lost on a missed xp. given the current knowledge, Florida should be the #1 team with USC #2, and Utah #3. Those who lobby for USC, i give you that USC is a very, very good team and USC could beat Florida, but we will never know with the current BCS format. |

When stating the Team 1, 2, 3 resumes .... as impressive as the wins are ... you can't leave the L off the resume..... ... Another thing about Utah and the current system .... I think their preseason ranking ended up hurting them. Had Utah been a preseason Top 5 team like Florida or Oklahoma .... they would have probably been a few slots higher in the Harris and USA Today polls. Utah finished #4 in the Coaches and # 7 in the Harris Poll. According to Saragin .... Utah had the #56 schedule rank. ... which isn't great ... But I bet the following team with schedule ranks not that far off Utah's would have ran the table they'd be playing for national title. Florida State (48) West Virginia (47) Penn State (55) Ohio State (46) Missouri (45) Notre Dame (50) I believe any of those teams would have been in at 13-0. (or 12-0 in some cases) with similar schedule strength to Utah..... Utah was left out because of the name on their jersey.

Ya .... that's why I try to call teams the 'BCS Champions' .... as opposed to 'National Champions'

in my mind, you either need to have a playoff format with the top 4 teams. or, i wouldnt care if they got rid of the BCS "National Championship"
game, and just have the Rose Bowl, Fiesta Bowl, Orange Bowl, and Sugar Bowl. That way there is no controversy and if you win your bowl, your the
"Bowl" Champions. However due to marketing and sponsers, that would never happen.
