I don't know what dictionary you got that definition from, but I can't find a documented sports related definition of "choke" outside of what Rusty Staub did with his bat. I haven't scoured the earth though either.

To me, and it seems others, "choke" in this instance simply means they failed to execute when it counted most. I won't cast dispersions on these kids that it was the result of poor effort, poor focus or even "pucker factor" due to the pressure of the situation. Heck, there shouldn't be any pressure up by 22 with 4 to play.

They say Scott Norwood "choked" in Super Bowl XXV. Was he not trying hard enough? Was he not focusing like he should? I say he just didn't execute appropriately. It so happens that the spotlight was such that it meant more than it would have in a September game, or even in a blowout at any time of year. Hence, due to timimg, it was defined as a choke.

Seems similar to what happened to Davison against Muskegon.

You don't have to agree with me. It's OK. I sure won't call your views "wimpified" or suggest that they are at odds with "this world's realities". I like to think we can all be above that kind of behavior.
