Nice win tonight over CC. I'll just leave it at Congrats --- and hope to see the Spartans again in 2009.

Stevenson was clearly the better team.
It has to be bothersome to CC alums to watch the new CC play. They didn't even try to play smashmouth; it was almost sad. I think this game (and the past few seasons, to be honest) are proof that CC doesn't recruit. If they do, their recruiting coordinator needs to be fired. CC used to beat people with better players (top to bottom) and more physical players. Tonight Stevenson had the edge in both of those categories. Considering that CC took Rice down to the wire, it's not as surprising that Lakeland beat Rice tonight, either, if CC is any indication. This might be the worst Catholic League Central Division in a long, long time...perhaps ever. I am still in shock. ![]() |

Other than Capatina (sp?) the RB, I didn't see one player on CC whom I would label as "good," let alone "very good."

Harding? didnt he have alot of receptions and didnt he score one of CC td's? The other, D'Agostino, a sophmore, didnt play much. something must have
happened because i didnt see much of him after the start.

(see the 2007 team) CC has very rarely had the raw talent like St. Marys or Brother Rice to be able to beat the best teams with their sophomores and juniors. They have had solid players who worked hard for 4 years to eventually become good to very good high school players (and a very standouts). ----- This season could remind some of the 1994 CC team with a sophomore Greg Call, and juniors like John Spolsky (and a lot of other juniors) trying to make up for a lack luster senior class. That CC team finished 6-3 before having a great year in 1995. (13-0). ----- I believe that players such as Niko Palazeti and Mike Kinville (and a few others) will find themselves in that "good" or "very good" category next season. ---- I believe this group has a lot to prove before I could think they could go 14-0 next season -- but I think CC should be back in the Top 5 in Division 1 next season. D'Agostinio will likely also be in that category the next two seasons. Did he get hurt in this game? D'Agostino is the regular kicker and NOT the kicker who misses the extra point --- or kicked off after that touchdown --- Am I right to assume that it had something to do with not going for the 3 pts when CC had a 4th down inside the 5? Again, Congrats to Stevenson --- I didn't want to make this topic about CC so I just gave Stevenson their much deserved props in the initial post -- but I just wanted to let ColonelKVC know my thoughts on his comments. |

This might be the worst Catholic League Central Division in a long, long time...perhaps ever. I don't know about "ever" but it's as down as I've seen it ... I had this argument with some of the CHSL guys after I saw the Catholic League "Big 4" in league play. I made the comment that besides DeLaSalle. Rice, CC and OLSM this season are all among the lowest they've been since I started watching CHSL Football... which would be about 15 seasons now. .. .and while it was opinion at the time ... I believe my comments have been justified this playoffs. I've seen a couple Stevenson/CC games in the past and this is the first time I have seen them match up physically with CC and win.... great job by Stevenson! It might not be the best team Stevenson has ever beaten, but it could be the biggest win. It has generally been with a lot of good or very good SENIORS. (see the 2007 team) CC has very rarely had the raw talent like St. Marys or Brother Rice to be able to beat the best teams with their sophomores and juniors. They have had solid players who worked hard for 4 years to eventually become good to very good high school players (and a very standouts). ----- I also agree with that statement.... and if Michael Kinville makes strides from junior to senior year like his older brother did ... he should be a special player next season. |

Yep. Hats off to the Spartans. They indeed were the better team.
The biggest surprise to me is the lack of dominance by the CC DL and OL. To me that has been the hallmark of CC FB. Look at last year. It was line play and not the skill position play that carried them to the State Semis. The Good Colonel's comments notwithstanding, has anyone knowledgeable ever truly thought that CC gave special deals to kids to come play FB for them? I assume that is what the Good Colonel means when he used the R word... I mean, CC has over 1000 kids; everyone of whom was recruited. I think the LSHS vs Canton game shapes up to be a darn entertaining one. Good luck. I also think you will see CC on the playoff threads again next year. |

Blue wrote:I agree with you about the junior class at CC this year. Also, what you said about D'Agostino makes sense too. When I saw CC going for it I was ready to draw up my "Fire Coach Mach" signs, but obviously something wasn't right in the kicking game. |
