Looks like both Metro teams advance. Congrats to both LNW and C'Ville for advancing and representing the Metro well.

Yes I see the Crusaders threw all over Southfield Christian for 5 touchdowns. Also slighted defensive MVP "loser" Matt Berkseth ended up with 20
tackles and 1 fumble recovery.
What was Gainer's stats? Here is what was posted in the Detroit free press >> QB Whitaker finished with 132 yards rushing on 18 carries out of the no-huddle spread formation. He passed for 40 yards, but was spelled by backup quarterback Jeremy Gainer (49 yards passing, 26 rushing) for two possessions in the first quarter after suffering a mild injury. I guess not enough defensive stats to be mentoned. Looks like the Killer Bees lead a strong defensive performance along with the Rolf and Friends show on offense! |

Clarenceville flips the script By TOM LANG • October 31, 2008 Clarenceville turned around a one-win season last year to just one loss this season. And Friday night the host Trojans extended their season by beating Ann
Arbor Gabriel Richard, 27-13, in a Division 5 playoff game.
LUTHERAN NORTHWEST 48, SOUTHFIELD CHRISTIAN 7 Crusaders power past Eagles By V. COREY FREENLEAF • October 31, 2008 With the Crusaders offensive line opening gaping holes and allowing plenty of time for quarterback Matt Rolf to sit in the pocket, Lutheran Northwest
powered its way to a 48-7 win over Southfield Christian in a Division 7 first-round playoff opener.

It's tough to have large stats when there was only 15 rushing attempts with 1 TD, leaving 14 attempts. Passing were 10-20 with 1 TD leaving 9 tackle
attempts, only at least half of those passes were caught on knees or out routes that the WR ran out of bounds. C'ville controlled clock and therefore no
one had large tackle stats.

... I check the D. News frequently, and I noticed that their high school beat writer picked both metro play-off teams to advance past round 1. No brain-storm
there, but noteworthy was Tom Markowski's highlighting of 3 players from the NW team in his 'Stars of the Week' section, based on last night's
action:
... He listed Matt Rolf as one of his 3-star players of the night, citing his 8-9 passing for 5 TDs (slight discrepency in the passing numbers with the article posted by A. Hill, but what's 1%? - unless you're negotiating a new contract! )
... Also highlighted was the combined 38 tackles by NW linebackers Matt Berkseth and Steve Beauregard, who also shared 3 forced fumbles! Crrunncchh!
...Excellent night for the entire Crusader squad, who are now 10-0!!

Excuses... excuses So where was Gainer's big tackle games in?
Not the Northwest game who rushed 34 times and he only got in on 6 of those - not to mention 5 receptions and 2 returns. That's barely %15 of his teams tackles that game > no where close to a MVP performance. Sorry still don't believe Gainer is that great of a football player who played harder than others who deserved to be MVP. Its just a shame that some coaches voted for the wrong reasons political or otherwise. |

Why are you always hating on Gainer and Cville Primetime? Is there some kind of grudge or Bad blood?

I'm not hating on anyone - I am just saying that there is just no justifcation to how Gainer got the defensive MVP over Berkseth.
All I hear is excuses. I believe kids should be rewarded for their hard work not how they did in some off-season combine or some scholarship offer! |

If only you knew, from what you see, any kid in the country who doesnt have outstandind stats doesnt deserve a scholarship or being recognised as a great
player. Obviously these colleges see something in Gainer, hes been on the scene even before these combines. it doesnt hurt to be able to showcase your speed
and strength in the combines, if it was worth nothing then why do they matter so much to schools?

it matters because it displays athletiscism and his junior year he had the stats to go along with his good combine but this year teams have been calling him
out by running at him and he cant show up. He hasnt had that good of a year no matter what u say

I am not saying Gainer is not a great athlete but he did get outplayed defensively this season in the Metro also he was easily blocked, didn't read plays
well from the LB spot and didn't play big defensively in the big games and stats wise - didn't have it either.
-So like I said before, you can't justify him getting the MVP award defensively this season - when others deserved it more. I also said nothing about how he shouldn't have been offered a scholarship! I was only implying that he was voted MVP just cause he was offered a scholarship not on his defensive play. And from what I was told only won on a 4-3 vote. |

Look, Berkseth's stats are definitely inflated, if the kid is anywhere near the pile they give him a tackle.
It is just coaches trying to get extra recognition for a player who the other coaches decided was probably the second best player. Eventually, you could let it go, move on, and focus on Royal Oak Shrine, who will most likely run over, through, and around Mr. Berkseth's defense this week. At least his stats will look good though -- plenty of chances to make tackles in the type of game this will probably be. And as we all know, stats are all that matters ... |

Week 10 is over, so is this debate. Can't change the vote now and it's best to leave it at that. Both Berkseth and Gainer are great football players,
can we leave it at that and quit with the personal attacks on both Gainer and Berkseth. A bunch of children running around this forum.

Wow - sounds like Primetime hit a nerve with C'Ville Trojans. I don't think primetime said Gainer was a bad player just didn't deserve it more than
that Berkseth kid, who I agree plays a lot harder than Gainer. Scholarship or no scholarship.
I don't think his stats are inflated either and at least we can compare them from what we saw at the games to what is on Maxpreps. Clarenceville never posts any stats so who is to know? I also think it is quite amusing how Clarenceville fans cant really justuify the MVP vote and have resorted to saying Berkseths stats are wrong. I think someone also asked what games Gainer had stats in with no replies? And according to someone he didn't play in week 8. Justify this then: I was at the Northwest / Clarencville game and the Trojans only scored 1 offensive touchdown against Mr. Berkseth's Defense and I believe Mr. Rolf's Offense rushed for over 300 yards! And I believe those are the kind of stats that matter ~ Northwest 29 Clarenceville 13.

Not really hit a nerve, just figured he'd have dropped it and let it go by now.
It was up to the coaches, not the stats or the fans, you know? Maybe it wasn't fair OR the right decision, who knows? But Berkseth isn't the next Brian Urlacher the way he is talked about on here either. So I'm saying just focus on the playoffs and leave whatever the Metro decided alone. |

Yes but if people don't agree with their decision they can still have a voice.
And obviously you haven't seen berkseth play cause if he was 3 inches taller and 50 lbs heavier he could be Urlacher. This also is the Metro conference not the NFL and he is only a junior. If this kids hits the weights hard before next season he could be a beast. |

If this kids hits the weights hard before next season he could be a beast. Wow! What a statement. Who knew that the next Brian Urlacher could come from the Metro Conference? Here is the answer to everyone's problems concering Berkseth. Like I said before about why Rolf being so good, it really helps Berkseth that he has a great defensive line. Northwest's linemen should've gotten the Offensive and Defensive MVP. If they didn't have those linemen, they would not have had the success they had this year. I know I'm just going to get murdered with comments, but that is the truth. The game is not won because of a strong running back, a good quarterback, or a smart linebacker. The game is won down in the trenches. That is where Northwest won their games. Down in the trenches. On defense and on offense. It's a lot easier to make a play on defense when no one is blocking you because the front line is plugging up the holes. If the opponent's offensive line can't get out on those linebackers, the game is over. Berkseth a lot of the time didn't get blocked very well, so it made it easier for him to make the plays and get those tackles. I'm not one to say his stats are inflated, I'm not one to say Berkseth isn't a good player, and I'm not one to say that he didn't deserve the Defensive MVP. I'm just saying, he should thank his defensive line because they are the ones who got him all those tackles. Berkseth is not a better football player than Gainer. Forget the stats. Gainer is going to Indiana. That's quite impressive whether you think he deserves it or not. Big Ten scouts think that this kid is good enough to play. I don't think Berkseth will be playing in the Big Ten even if he is the Defensive MVP next year and grows three more inches and gains 50 more pounds. I just don't see it for him. Like I said, I'm indifferent about who deserves this reward. I'm just putting my opinion out there that this entire season in the Metro is all about Northwest's linemen. It's not about Rolf. It's not about Berkseth. They won because of their linemen. Period. End of story. |
