Just wondering....

Doubtful since the Walled Lake Central vs. Clarkston game fell on Halloween a few years ago. I passed out the candy still then went over at 7pm to watch
the game.

The last time the first round fell on Halloween was prior to congressional passage of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which extended Daylight Saving Time
another week into the Fall so that Halloween would always be during DST. There was substantial pressure to move games to Saturday that year because of
concerns that children would be out and about and potentially get hurt by all of the traffic and commotion of hosting Football games, but with another hour of
daylight, I bet it'll be less of a concern this time around.

According to John Hulsebus website, the Walled Lake Central vs. Clarkston game was in 2003. I don't know how you are coming up with 2005 since that was just a couple of years ago. Even with 2 leap years thrown, this is the minimum time from it to come full circle from Halloween Friday to Halloween Friday. With only one leap year, it take one more year to come full circle. |

If you are looking to stir up controversy you have just done it. There is NO way Howell will throw a game to not play DCC and for you to suggest that just
shows the mentality of the people on these posts who make these comments
.
I'm sure Howell would not mind drawing cc because the results will not be the same as last year(without martin). There will be no "one and done"
this year Mr NCAA.
Stick to passing out candy. |

He said prior to 2005, which includes 2003.
Sorry, I couldn't help but be a wiseguy - the original post is written in a way that could be interpreted the way you did. I remember that year also, but my memory must be skewed because I remember Anchor Bay having a home playoff game on Halloween; is that even remotely possible? EDIT: Wow, I looked it up and my memory is not playing tricks on me. Not only did Anchor Bay play a home playoff game on Halloween, they beat Dakota. How times have changed in 5 short years.

He said prior to 2005, which includes 2003.Hey I can be a wise guy too and say that included WW2 years as well when there was no playoffs. As far as Howell game is concerned: I hope that the rematch takes place so we can see who is right and who is wrong.

My point was, the last time the first round fell on Halloween (2003), DST was already over, and there was substantial pressure in some communities to
schedule games for Saturday instead of Friday night. That factor won't be in play this year because of the Energy Policy Act of 2005, which extended DST
another week.

It looks like Howell will be heading West this year. The good news--they won't have to play CC. The bad news--they will play Rockford.

I have a sneaking suspiscion that the MHSAA will send Muskegon into the district with Bay City Western, Midland, and Arthur Hill. In '04 Muskegon was grouped with Midland and BCW and it wouldn't surprise me if they did it again. |

The MHSAA groups teams into Regions of 8, not Districts of 4. Once the Regions are geographically made, then they carve out two districts--again by region.
They start in the north and come south down the middle of the state, then veer West. That clearly groups seven Western teams--leaving one spot open. They are
not going to send Musky to the Tri-Cities, they will send one team to the West to complete the Region of 8. I've selected Midland to go West. Yes, they
are close to Bay City Western, but they are the closest to the West Region, so they go. That's my call. Of course, I could be wrong. There are always
surprises from the MHSAA.

prepseer wrote:That's interesting, Prepseer, and it explains why Muskegon ended up in a "Northern" group that year. If you look at the playoff map that Snooze2me provided then Muskegon is the 4th most Northern team in Division 2 according to your logic. They could then join up with the Tri Cities. |

St. Joseph has moved trick or treaty to Thursday to allow for people to go to the game Friday...

I looked at the maps and it's certainly possible that the MHSAA will leave Midland up in the Tri Cities with the other teams and move Lansing Everett over
to the West. I just happened to move Everett East and Midland West. Could go either way. Another difference I have from the map is that based on Week 9
projections of game outcomes, I have Portage Northern out of the playoffs and Grand Rapids Kenowa Hills in Division 2. Either way, the West has 7 teams, so
somebody has to travel to make. It doesn't necessarily mean a team will have to travel west. Depending on points, a West team might have to travel to
Midland or Lansing Everett.

OK, finally got through on here again. For 2003 D1 and D2 playoffs all 32 first round games were played on Halloween Friday based on John Hulsebus's
website. I will check on the other divisions at a later time.

not surprising. i dont see any reason other than people worried about extra traffic on the streets, but most people are going to be at the games before it even
gets dark out, and won't leave until at least 9, when the majority of trick or treating will be done anyways
