OLSM has appeared on the "50 Teams that Just Missed the Cut" List. St. Mary's Prep (Orchard Lake, Mich.), 10-3 last season: The Eaglets should challenge again for the Division 3 state championship after falling in a five-overtime heartbreaker to East Grand Rapids in last year's final. Eleven starters are back led by highly recruited WR/DE Dion Sims (6-6, 235) and FB/LB Justin Semmes (6-2, 226). I think Prep Nation got it right on OLSM by putting them in the honorable mention category. They've also got Brother Rice at #90. How many other Michigan teams will make the list. My prediction: one. Macomb Dakota. I may be giving away my top three in Pre-Season rankings, but that's ok. Call it a sneak preview. Dakota. Rice. OLSM. Three very good teams in 2008.

I had to try to convince them that there was a big time gap between St. X and Dematha on yappi. National rankings are fun to debate though. So I'm looking forward to seeing the rest.

I agree it would be tough to argue that those shouldn't be the Top 3 teams going into 2008. I would have given them the nod just because of the two consecutive titles and a good squad returning. It's the kind of situation that until Dakota gets beat, they deserve a high rating--even #1. But, honestly, I think both Brother Rice and OLSM probably will have better teams. If either played Dakota in Week One I would go with them, even though I might rank Dakota #1 in a Pre-Season poll.

Dakota has the onfield success the past 2 years ..... but not the big name yet (nationally) or the big names on the roster that the national polls seem to like. I have no issue with Dakota being anywhere in the Top 3-4 this year(including no. 1) ... as I'm not sure we have a clear cut no. 1 going into the year. I disagree with the outcome of a week 1 match up with OLSM or Rice (Big Surprise, Eh), but I would love to see Dakota have the ability to play some non MAC teams in the regular season.
