BG, I had Davidson, San Diego, Western Kentucky and Siena. It has not helped my cause that much. I am not out of it yet, my Final 4 is still alive. There are a
few people with the same Final 4 and NC as the champ with higher possible points than me with only a few different picks left through out the bracket. At least
if NC wins I will get a respectable finish.

State didn't just lose, they got their fannies handed to them by a clearly superior team. Memphis broke a little history when you look at what Izzo has
done with his teams in the tournament. Too bad on many levels, but MSU losing more'n likely put me out of the money in my office pool (money being
matchsticks of course)
People poo poo'd Clark Kellogg when he ran with the number 1 seeds to make it to the Final Four. Doesn't look like such a bad guess now. Does it? Does ANY team remaining look like they have what it takes to upset the number ones? Dunno, can Davidson make it 26 straight? Anyone know the last time all the one seeds advanced to the Final Four? It has to have been awhile. Observations on Ford Field hosting: There were many greeters/ambassadors just like at the Super Bowl. But 57,000 people to watch basketball is too many - NCAA record or not (probably record for a Reg Semi Final).REminds me of back when I was a youngster going to the Silverdome for games. Parking was same price as a Lions FB game and not the 'discounted' rate you get for the Tigers. Is a hot dog really 5.50 during the regular season? I find that hard to believe. The souvenirs etc were pretty cool. They have a tee with the logo of all 16 regional participants across the back - 22 bucks. All in all a good experience, but Ford Field is wayyyy too big to enjoy hoops. When we go to the Final Four next year, we will opt to pay for the main floor tix. The Palace was a great venue with OU hosted the opening round, two years ago. |

A portion of the quirky and frustrating MSU season this year is in large part due to the fact that they are a team that is stuck between two styles of play. Their half court deliberate past has run headlong into their transition future. And I think Izzo surreptitiously used much of this year to look ahead. I think the balancing act that he played with those two styles may have frustrated some of the upperclassmen as well. Nietzel's on again off again year showed that, and it is no secret that the senior Spartan was less than thrilled with a few of the skipper's choices. Result; MSU was a team lacking chemistry. And last night, a team with an abundance chemistry that was further cooked on the bunson burner of, "Memphis is the likely upset this round," took advantage of those elements and created a compound of whoopass, enough to fill a big bottle. Having heard ad nauseum that they wouldn't survive a one or two possession close game due to abysmal free throw shooting, they made sure there was no way it could have been an issue by dumping that bottle on the Spartans early. Good chemistry allows for such things. Still, I think there is much reason to be optimistic about the Spartan's future, as next year will yield an uncompromising transition game with a handful of youngsters bred for just that style. A see a year of exciting basketball where they might (big might) be able to break again into the sweet 16 followed by a year of where the sky could be the limit. Admittedly, I have compelling reason for my heart to be with the guys in green for the next little while, but I don't think my head is wrong on this one either. Worry not, Biased Guy. Your Spartans didn't go one and done as so many thought (stat wise, they were the most popular 12/5 upset that Vegas saw this year). It was a learning year for coach as much as the youngsters and I think that the curve will prove useful. It's gonna get better. And if you think about it, it really ain't that bad to begin with. |

Just makes too much economic sense. Here is what I notice about the big places as it effects the games.... If anyone here was a hoopster who, like all hoopsters, grew up shooting in a gym, can remeber that first game they played in an arena, you know that you can shoot for squat that first time. I submit you see the same thing going from an arean to a stadium because the entire sense of perspective changes. Some kids adjust in fair time, but it sure seems to me I saw more airballs the last two night than I had seen in the first two go rounds. Also, from a TV watching perspective, covering those games with mid court cameras mounted way way back and way way far away means using longer lenses. That translates optically into a shallower depth of field (any photographers out there?) which means the court looks ultra skinny on TV. I found it distracting. The effect was amplified by the fact that the FF site was bordered in black and the court is very bright. It looked as though it was three steps from sideline to sideline and it made lateral movement look really slow. |

Some might say this is a "boring" year with all 4 1-seeds in the Final 4.
Gotta say I love the matchups ... I'm actually interested in these games. While it might be cool to see a Davidson or some other longshot in there .... . I'm glad to not see the mid-level seeds ... those seem to be the boring ones ... like a Wisconsin vs. Someone matchup wouldn't draw me in. I guess the committee "got it right" this year.

Did anyone else who was pulling for Davidson get as frustrated as I was with their final 17 seconds of the game yesterday?
I mean everyone in the house had to know a double was coming on Curry! Why on Gods green earth would they have him bring the ball across the time line? With three to win and two to tie, I would have thought the call would have been to make Kansas make the decision to double him from the weak side or not. I mean corner a man ball side with a stong side short corner post and set Curry a weak side and screen! If they double him the guard with the ball hits the short corner and crashes the elbow and you either have a dump to the block for two or a flash from the guard to the elbow for two....either way a good shot at a tie. If they don't double him you let Curry let the trey fly off of the screen....basketball 101 for the circumstances. But to have him dribble from out of range into a double so someone else could take a 30 footer....well....I am hoping that it was a case of someone on the floor not doing what was drawn. Oh well, heckuva run for Davidson. And no one is going to beat UNC anyway.

Ho, It was great the the best game of the Reg Finals was in Detroit. GREAT game! I love watching the upstarts. It's almost as if they don't pay
attention to their seed and play they way they are supposed to.
Auld, Yep. That is EXACTLY what the ladies do....ride the number ones, and mostly pick the higher seeds to beat the lower. As a result I may actually witness my first tie breaker. Too funny though. The non sports watchers actually in the money running this year. March Madness....It's Maddening.... |

Searn, In answer to your question, a quick survey of this year's bracket winners did indeed result in winning our pool. If I scored it correctly the
winning score by picking all higher seeds in any game came to 168 (or was it 162?) I think the winner in your pool had 156.
Did I mention I cashed two pools this year
