The 13 players I referred as started for DLS, actually started a game. If Popp started five games then he is considered a returning starter. Also, you were
correct about Ramirez getting kicked out of DLS and Pitts transferred to Det. Southeastern but I was not counting them as returning starters. The players that
will be missed and must be replaced are Torzy, Chad O, Macleod, and Blackburn. The others will be replaced with better players. Sorgi will most likely move
to weak OLB and Shane McCain will most likely start at Lber with Chet P. McCain is a beast and should have been on Varsity but there really was no spot for
him last year. Sorgi(cousin of Jim,Colts)is over 200 lbs and will upgrade his position. You were also correct about Karam, he has worked really hard this
winter and will contribute somewhere next season.

Recall that Huron went and beat #13 USA Today-ranked Rockford under normal conditions the week after the WLW game. This suggests two things: 1. Huron must have been pretty darn good to go and beat Munger's most talented team ever. 2. You either forgot that Western would have had to play the best team in the state the next week, or you assumed you'd have beaten the 13th ranked team in the country. There were 11 players on that Huron team that went on to play college ball, 3 of whom were starters at Wayne State (1 or 2 of them were all-conference). I don't care if you have zero D-1 guys. If you have more than 5 good enough to get a scholly to play D-2, you have a heck of a HS team (unless you're in the PSL, I guess--ahem, Cass Tech). Huron had a very high-powered offense that year and was equally slowed down by the snowy conditions. Huron ran a lot more wide-open offensive scheme and threw the ball a ton more than Western, so why did bad weather conditions favor Huron? If it was difficult footing, shouldn't Western's counter game out of the wing-T worked wonders on a defense that is trying to re-direct? But if you're searching for explanations, here's a couple guesses: 1. Western beat Brighton on Friday, and many of the Warriors went to the Huron/Belleville game the next night. As Huron left the field, said "Warriors" put their state title rings from the year before on their middle fingers and let their fingers do their talking. 2. In the locker room prior to the game, Western had its highlight video from the '96 title team on. Every River Rat could easily hear the video. Both of these suggest typical Walled Lake trash talk and chest thumping (which Central went on to adopt, perhaps an Apap thing). 3. David Johnson, Western's absolute beast of a FB, tried (briefly and unsuccessfully) to play on a broken ankle. They really didn't have Johnson, and on a snowy night, a runaway freight train is a good weapon to have. 4. Huron had better players. OR 5. Huron had better coaches. However, here's probably the most logical explanation: 6. Huron had the better team in '97. ![]() |

This "CC slappy" voted for OLSM. Not that I believe that is necessarily the case in the regular season, but when you factor in the playoffs, I give
OLSM the nod.

ColonelKVC,
I remember that snowy night as well, we had to play at Troy. Believe it or not, coach Mach's game plan (and it worked like a charm) was that if we got the snow storm we were going to THROW THE BALL( Yes Coach Mach said this!) |

Yes, I did catch the finals, and Huron did have an "off" game. I think it was three things:
1. The players were wowed by the stage. 2. Letdown after beating the 13th ranked team in the nation. 3. CC was better than Rockford, and Huron wasn't ready for that. Speaking of Stevenson that year, I watched the film of the Stevenson-CC game and Stevenson gave CC the game with a muffed punt in the final minutes. I thought Stevenson was the better team, but if you can't field a punt, perhaps you don't deserve to win. ![]() |

Hard to argue that, I'm not if there are many high school backfields that can rival one with Joe Alls and Michael Tennessee. You could probably say the same thing when comparing us to Troy though. Against Stevenson we played great in the first quarter, but Stevenson carried most of the rest of the game --- but our guys made some plays in the end, (and
Stevenson made the bonehead play) that won it.
We thrived that year beating teams that we were not supposed to. I wasn't sure if there was a tougher road than beating Troy, Stevenson then Huron to win a title, until the next year when we played Fordson, Troy, Stevenson and Rockford!Based on how teams were when we played them, I would rate Huron 7th out of the 8 teams we played in the two title runs, John Glenn at #8. |

Believe me, I have no delusions about the classiest or lack there of with the players in the program in that era, and I don't think it has changed much under Coach Z --- but now that do not have as much to be cocky about! Whether Huron was the better team,(and I'll concede that since they proved it on the field)--- that WLW team had too much firepower on offense to get shut out. |

OL Starters for OLSM and BBR | #34 | ||
footballguy207 wrote: It looks like OLSM will return one starter on the O-Line; BBR will have two returning starters. Both schools will reload with a wealth of talent from last
year's back-ups and JV players. BBR could benefit from the return to football by a top-level baseball player who starred in football as a Freshman, but
didn't play last year. I've got him pencilled in as a potential starter on the O-Line. It's a lot easier to project new starters at the skill
positions; there's always a certain amount of guesswork on the O and D lines. But here goes:

i like your picks for Rice and for st marys except i would say gabe charrete for the tackle spot instead of the junior brimer and the goryoka kid didnt even
start on jv. Give pat kendrick a chance at guard he played alot in the playoffs last year but for rice i would say ur dead on in my opinion.

O Lines | #36 | ||

grown? 5'9" 170 is a bit small for the OL in the Central Division. Did his brother (similar size) play much last year as a Senior?

I was one of the people that voted for CC. I will admit that outside of Dakota, CC is right up there as far as programs that I admire, respect and tend to root
for when they are not playing a MAC team. While it is probably not likely that they finish with the most wins I think CC reestablished themselves last year and
will carry some momentum into next saeson. I know there out of conference schedule is not tough and if they get a win or 2 against BR,OLSM or DLS they could be
6-3 or 7-2 heading into the playoffs. The way the brackets for D1 were done this year if CC would have been in regions 3 or 4 they would have steamrolled
through that side of the bracket and been playing for it all at Ford Field against Dakota. All I can do is hope for another playoff rematch with Dakota and CC
beacuse both of those games in 02 and this past season were extremely physical where no easy points or yards for that matter were given up and the game was a
battle until the final minutes.

Het ftballer67 I hope you are right, and that last years success carries over into this upcoming season. I do believe that the near future looks bright at CC
even if next year they struggle. In another matter does anybody have info regarding the CC scheduole? I don't believe they will be playing ND prep, which
opens up the schedule for more competive games, and they should also have a date to fill during the season with the absence of U of D from the schedule.
