Not trying to slam the new man but...
Seems this school will continue in the same direction. Anyone with some real insight?
Lapeer East football coach steps down
Brett Moore is accustomed to taking over struggling football programs.
The Oxford resident spent the previous eight seasons at Memphis, Clio and Lapeer East - the last three at East.
Now he's moving on to another project.
Moore has stepped down as the Lapeer East head coach to take the same position at Walled Lake Northern.
Northern opened in 2003 and has a record of 10-35, including 0-9 last year.
"It's a tremendous opportunity," Moore said. "We just have to get the program turned around."
Moore coached at Memphis from 2000-03 before going to Clio in 2004.
He spent one season with the Mustangs before moving to East. During his stops at Memphis and East, his teams showed improvement over the course of his tenure.
His Memphis teams went 3-15 during his first two seasons before posting back-to-back 7-3 records during his final two campaigns.
East went 2-7 during his initial season before improving to 4-5 the previous two seasons. His career record is 28-46.
Last fall, the Eagles won four of their first seven games, including a 42-24 upset of previously unbeaten Oxford.
East had some tough luck at the end of the season, losing its final two games by a combined three points.
Moore teaches special education at East. He said he will finish the school year before leaving for a similar job at Northern.
"It was a blast," Moore said of his time at East. "We had a great staff and a great group of kids to work with. I thought we improved every year."
