To me, it is no doubt that it is Troy.....

From your list, East Lansing.
Overall, though, I would have to go with Leslie. The performance they gave against #1 Kzoo Christian was nothing short of phenomenal. "The common man revels in HAVING WON. The champion finds his satisfaction in WINNING." - F.H. Yost

I vote for CC. Glad to see them back.
But give Rice a break in a tough district and a game that could have gone either way vs. a very tough RA team and couple that with the pre season CC is dead talk and the picks for OLSM to finish 4th in the CL and I would say the whole CHSL has been a suprise! |

I voted King, but that is my bias against the quality of PSL FB. Troy would have been a good pick too. Both teams however do have extensive playoff histories.
Just usually not this deep of runs.
EDIT - .........AND I think the performance of the CAAC Blue has to be surprising so EL is a fair choice. Too bad for them it ends this Saturday. |

I voted Lowell because I never expected them to beat Hudsy, though I never expected E. Lansing to beat DeWitt or Chelsea either. I might say it has to be EL
now in retrospect. Troy beat some good teams, but not teams who truly were going to win D-1 this year. I based my pick solely on this year's playoff
matchups, not what the team has done in recent history.

You honestly thought Cousino had a chance to WIN D-1 this year? I thought Hudy could win D-2 and DeWitt would play Chelsea in the D-3 final.

Troy and East Lansing are great choices.
Most years I would go with King (the PSL has not been this far in the higher divisions in a long time, unless I'm forgetting something). But this year I already thought King was very good going in, plus with the draw they got I expected them to get this far. If King beats Adams, and I change my vote if this poll comes up next week. |

Not to hijack the poll, but I've got to add Midland to the list. They were not expected to do much at all and most had them losing in each of their playoff
games.

Saginaw Nouvel had to beat the #2 teams in both the AP's D6 and D7 final ratings on the road. The AP appears to have done a much better job so far
compared in the past. It will be interesting to see if we get down to that one third figure that TheOutlander likes LOL!!!! Before someone points it out, I
picked against Saginaw Nouvel in week 1 of the playoffs despite my playoff rule.

I get the feeling some of you don't think any teams below Division 3 exist in this State.

I can understand why most of the people on here favors the big schools. Quite a few either are from the metro Detroit area, Grand Rapids area, or other
"large" cities. Those of us who grew up in smaller counties only had one or two big schools to root for. This is why I followed the smaller Lenawee
County teams when I grew up and still do via the internet. This is one of the reasons why I prorated my picks to reflect close to how many teams are in each
division as well since I follow the small schools as well as I can. I wish that I could get more info on teams such as Mio via newspaper links, but oh well
that's life. I try as much as I can to throw out my built in biases in my picks so I can try to hit a higher percentage.

upfootball, I have stated numerous times that I don't know how some of these forum regulars do it - pick the lower division teams. While I would be able to
find most of the towns on a map, I would have no clue how to make educated picks on some of these games. That is certainly not a deliberate slight on smaller
schools. MrNCAA hit it on the head....
As far as the UP goes I must admit I eagerly followed Munising's run many years ago, and now am more than a bit intrigued with Menominee (I visit the UP as often as possible) But I will have to satisfy my interest by hopefully watching a JLS v Menominee in the D5 Final. |

It looks like BiasedGuy started a blog as well. In the future if people do blogs, please announce it in the main forum so people can go there to read your material. Thanks. |

You're right, upfootball, there is not a lot of talk on here about the D5-D8 schools. Most of the schools I write up are in this range, so my South
Central section is probably in the minority. Given the small fan bases of most of these schools, I just don't think you have enough people online to get
the discussion started.

My take on biggest "surprise still in playoffs"
Is MLK not that are not a very good team as I have seen them play this year, just PSL teams typically do not go this far. Love to see them carry it all the way. That said I think it ends this week with MLK playing RA , RA very strong and multi-demensional which is why they are tough. |
