Who breaks out?
I think Novi beats Brighton next week, and South Lyon beats Milford. The following week, Novi plays South Lyon for a piece of the championship. Lakeland can get a piece if they beat Howell and Brighton (which I think they will). Howell has to beat Brighton and Lakeland. (I think they'll get Brighton but not Lakeland.) When all is said and done, I think the winner of the South Lyon/Novi game shares the title with Lakeland. If you're looking for a spoiler, it could only be Hartland, Milford, or Pinckney. It's simply amazing that Milford, once a Markowski top 5 pick, is now 1-3 in the KVC and looking to play spoiler in the league, win out and squeak in to the post-season. It has been a less-than stellar job by the Milford coaches this year, but it really points out the flaws of pre-season rankings in H.S. football. Lots of times teams are ranked based on previous accomplishments. ![]() |

Colonel, this is no knock on the mavericks but milford still has what I feel to be the best team in the KVC. I have seen them play a few times and the
reality of the league is that it is pretty solid all the way through. I said in an earlier post that I would love to see a milford / lakeland rematch in the
playoffs but that was more of my stones talking than my head. If milford finishes out and makes the playoffs I think they can make a run simliar to last
year's. I doubt any KVC team would want to meet them again!

I think the better question is... how many KVC teams will make the playoffs. Can 5 squeeze in this year?

Logjam at the top of the KVC is Brighton, South Lyon, Lakelands, Howell and Novi. Here is what I see shaking out with three games to play. Of course, if a
team can run the table, they have a very good chance of standing alone at the top when the dust settles. Best chance at doing that is Lakelands and Novi.
Brighton is the outsider, low team on the totem pole, yet they have played well this season. They have three difficult conference games. Realisticly, I see and upset win and two losses. South Lyon also has three tough games. Milford SHOULD be a battle, then at Novi, then Howell in the Jungle. Depending on which SL team shows up to play, this could be a one loss coference season. But, I thinks me see's one more loss coming the Lions way. Howell like Brighton has three very good opponents. The loser of this weekends game between Howell and Lakelands will be out of title contention. Novi Suprise, suprise...all of a sudden they are the darling of the KVC (I saw that weeks ago) Home game versus South Lyon in two weeks is gonna be huge for the 'Cats should both teams win this week. Lakelands still controls who ends on top. They win Friday, they will only have one other team as co-champions, barring a loss to Pinckney or Brighton due to SL vs Novi game the following week. What does this all mean? Four teams go 2-1 in the final three games to finnish the KVC as co-champs in its final year and four teams making the state playoffs. |

If all went as I see it, Brighton will be 4-4 needing a win vs. Livonia Stevenson to get to five wins. (Brighton's last four games: Novi 4-1, Howell 4-1, Lakelands 4-1 then Stevenson 5-0) Could they still get in the playoffs at 5-4?? Milford could win out to get to 6-3. Not as impossible as it seems. Must beat South Lyon to get any momentum. A one loss finish could get them to
5-4.

Milford could deffinantly make it still by winning out, however the chances of Brighton winning out and beating Livonia Stevenson are slim to none. Stevenson
is undefeated and has put up over 40 points on each team they've played.
I see Novi, Lakeland, South Lyon and possibly.......... Milford making it in. |

I guess we'll see what the KVC is made out of once the final week is played (Stevenson/Dearborn/Saline are on the slate for a few teams). The scenarios of
how the season winds down are mind boggling. Novi isn't close to "Out of the woods" yet. Brighton will play them tough and SL will be a big test.
Personally, I think Novi is bound to lose one of these close games if they keep playing in them. Hartland even surprised Novi a couple years back. Lakeland is
in good shape to keep a share of the crown. If they just keep doing what they've been doing, they'll be alright. South Lyon, Howell, and Brighton
control their respective destiny, as does Milford. Milford as we've noted has TWO games against Pinckney to close out the season. I personally cannot
remember too many wild and wacky seasons like this where so many teams are in the hunt.

Personally I counted Howell out, only becuse of there performance last week against Pinckney. They still need to win 2 of the next 4 games to lock in a spot.
With Lakeland this week, Brighton, South Lyon, and finishing with Jackson. So ya, if they beat Lakeland this week they will most likely be able to get another
win down the road. But Howells next 3 games will be very close, and I dont know much about Jackson in week 9.

The interesting thing to me is that every game not involving Pinckney and Hartland have been close. (Some of those have, too.)
All the leaders have played both cellar-dwellers, except Novi, who still has Hartland in week 8. Milford has yet to play either of these teams. Point is, as tight as things have been, expect them to tighten up. If Milford beats South Lyon and the other leaders knock each other off, we could have a serious log-jam at the end of the year. On the other hand, the Hartland-Pinckney match-up this week will decide who finishes 7th at 1-5 and who finishes 8th at 0-6. That's about the only thing I'm sure of these days. ![]() |
