What a crock. Total yards: Milford 275 Lakeland 130. Milford threw for 160 in the first half. The Mavs let Lakeland hang around in the first half, scoring only 14 when they easily could have had 28 (and should have had at least 20). Lakeland did play inspired in the second half, but it was the blocked punt that turned the game around. After that, Lakeland let loose and Milford panicked. Lakeland's scores came on a blocked punt scoop/score, 25 yard drive after a fumble, and on a pass where the WR came from out of bounds. Nice win for the Eagles, they should enjoy it.

Lakeland scores comeback win

Milford dominated the first half from the kickoff. Milford started the game withthe ball and steadily drove down to the Lakeland 16 when Jordan Kidd was picked off by Clint Penokie who returned the ball to near midfield. The interception proved to be the highlight for the Eagles in the first half. The Eagles went three and out and appeared to have Milford stopped at their own 40, but the punt was mishandled and Milford got the ball back at the Lakeland 35. Three plays later Kidd took a quarterback keeper up the middle for the first score of the game.

Lakeland got just across midfield before they were forced to punt. Milford's first play from scrimmage in the second quarter was a Kidd pass to a wide open Nick Haller for a 65-yard score. Lakeland again went three and out and a mishandled snap gave the Mavericks the ball at the Lakeland 27. The Mavericks got to the 10 and a field goal attempt was no good. Thee plays later the Mavericks had the ball again on a Haller interception returned to the Lakeland 24. Milford ran just over three minutes off the clock but this time the field goal attempt was partially blocked. The Eagles again went three and out and the half ended on a meaningless interception by the Eagles Austin Berger.

The Mavericks had a 215-36 yardage advantage in the first half and had seven first downs to the Eagles one. Jordan Kidd was 7 for 13 passing for 154 yards and a touchdown against two interceptions in the first half with ten carries for 40 yards and a rushing touchdown.

Lakeland came out an entirely different team in the second half. The Eagles started to move the ball well to start the second half and took the ball deep into Maverick territory before turning the ball over on downs to Milford at 12-yard line. Milford got one first down before being forced to punt. A 57-yard punt pinned Lakeland back at their own 12. Lakeland picked up two more first downs before punting back to Milford. Milford started with the ball at their own 34 and got near midfield before being forced to punt. The punt was where the momentum really started to turn for Lakeland. Jon Wissner broke through on the punt and blocked the kick, then picked the ball up on the first bounce and returned it about 40 yards for a touchdown. The extra point bounced off the left upright and Lakeland trailed 14-6 near the end of the third quarter.

Milford was stuffed on their next set of downs and was facing a 4th & 25 from their own 17 when the punt gave the Eagles the ball at midfield. Each team went three and out on their posessions. Lakeland started their next drive with just over eight minutes to go in the game at the Milford 44. The Eagles passing game started to take effect and on a first down from the Milford 19 Blake Heiman connected with Clint Penokie on the right sideline for a score. Penokie had actually gone out of bounds and re-entered play, but either the refs never saw it or judged him to be pushed out. The two-point conversion looked to be a pass to the right, but good Maverick coverage forced Heiman to scramble to the right and his dive for the pylon was stopped just short.

Milford started their next drive at their own 24 and had two short gains before a fumble was recovered by Ian Docherty at the Maverick 19. Docherty had two five-yard gains before he broke through the Milford line up the middle for a nine-yard score to put Lakeland up 18-14. The two-point conversion was good and the Eagles led 20-14. Milford was doing a good job of moving the ball up the field and got a first down with just under three minutes to go near midfield. On the next play Kyle Podvin broke a run into Lakeland territory before he was stripped and the Eagles ran the ball back to their own 45. Milford did their best to use their time-outs but Lakeland was able to get a first down and run out the clock.

Overall, it was a tale of two halves. The first half was all Milford and the Mavericks could have easily been up at least 17-0 or even as much as 28-0. The Eagles did a fantastic job of regrouping at the half and Ian Docherty did a great job getting his team back into the game. Docherty had 74 yards on sixteen carries with a touchdown along with two receptions for sixteen yards and the big fumble recovery.

The game was played before an overflow crowd that enjoyed a Lakeland tastefest before the game. Lakeland improves to 4-0 while Milford drops to 2-2.

"Should your milford offensive lineman be flagged for flagrant holding on nearly every play" The Lakeland wing back had a hold of the Milford OLB all night, but holding is rarely called, so that goes both ways.

"Let us not forget that one of your milford touchdowns in the first half came on a fumbled punt giving your milford team a short field to work with. (I guess you forgot about mentioning that one.) With that play not happening, maybe milford only scores 7 in the first half." Two missed FGs and an INT in the red zone in the first half. Again, look at the yardage totals not only for the game, but especially the first half.

" On Thursday the Milford freshmen had the chance to tack on a late TD, but coach Fox was there to make them take a knee.

"As far as the QB being a complete i believe you said "@!#++++" hello he had to seeing as it was 4th down and and I don't know if you know some of the rules of football but you only get 4 downs and if he would have taken a knee it would have been turnover on downs MIlford Ball. Get ur facts straight!" Um, it was a 2-pt. conversion, which is certainly not a 1st down. So maybe it's you who should get "ur" facts straight, as well as the spelling of "your" (although you probably don't know the difference between "your" and "you're." By the way, if the kid isn't a jack ass, then how come his head coach apologized after the game? Maltese has great character, and a few people at Lakeland do but even they cannot overcome a school half devoid of it.
