St. Ambrose, a Class C school in Grosse Pointe Park, was a football power in the Detroit Catholic League.

Before there were state playoffs, there was the Goodfellow Game, matching the Catholic League champion against the Detroit Public School League champion.... ]]>

			<description><![CDATA[ U of D Mercy, formerly known as the University of Detroit, had a football team until 1964 when it was disbanded. The stadium where the college played and where
the last couple Goodfellows games were played was still around until well into the 1970s when it was torn down.

Back when St. Ambrose was in its heyday, there were 75-80 schools in the CHSL - I would guess it wasn&#39;t the easiest thing to run a league with 75-80 teams
in it, let alone monitor what each school was doing.... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ Boeing in the book it said the Goodfellow game was moved from Tigers Stadium to the Univeristy of Detroit. Was the UofD the school that was mentioned for this
game be known today as UofD Mercy, or UofD Jesuit or was it an entirley different University of Detroit that played host to the game?

As far as the recruiting, without the MHSAA there was really no one to police it. I remember reading about the catholic league offices coming down on some of
the tactics that St. Ambrose used... ]]></description>
