Due to "Breaking News in D8" (http://searnfootballforum.yuku.com/topic/5709), the maps have been changed. Some teams have switched divisions, and quite a few moved to new districts within the same division. I'll admit I didn't spend as much time as usual looking for the best solution in each division. Your input is welcome.

Oh, my mistake. I should have known to check D3. It looks nice though, seeing Divine Child in the playoff discussion after missing playoffs for three straight years.

Falcon,

Divine Child is currently the smallest school in D3. They may be D4 after week 9, but with these 256 teams, they fall into D3.

I think you need to re-check the White District in Division 4. Dearborn Divine Child has a higher POP than Detroit Country Day and Dearborn Heights Robichaud.

At any rate, I thought you might find it illuminating, particularly since there is some debate on the MLive forum as to the propriety of exactly what he commented on (they seem to think that you all here have some sort of "agenda" to get Muskegon CC into R1; apparently they think R1 is going to be the easiest path to the SFs and it's a "prize" to go through the UP?).

Yea it was something like that but then after my post I came up with Webberville being the furthest north team for Pittsford or Waldron. I wasn't about to make a huge amount of changes in a division since I didn't want to get into a debate this early.

Here's another possibility that I just thought of:
Western UP - as is

GSM with Eastern UP

Central Lake, Frankfort, Marion, Man. CC

BC All Saints, A-G-S, Mio, J-L

MCC, BC St. Phil, Mendon,...

There were some changes that I had thought of when I looked at the map. However, Waldron or Pittsford would have to travel major miles. So that's why I wasn't about to run a ton of numbers to change D8 at least this week. GSM would be placed with the UP teams under my scenario.

As for whether the MHSAA considers the "who" and not just the "where" of Districts, my two cents is that a few years ago, I remember an undefeated Muskegon CC ended up in the same District as an undefeated Merrill team (towns that are not that close together!) and then followed that up with a game in the Regional against an undefeated Gobles team. My recollection is that the problem was that Muskegon CC was a long, long ways away from anybody they could have been placed...

I ran the Division 8 map past a friend of mine that works at MHSAA, and he said "My map [of Division 8] didn't put Muskegon Catholic into the same district with Marion, Manistee CC and Frankfort; nor did I have All Saints or Seminary in the same district with SHA and Beal City." I didn't press him for more details since they don't really like to make predictions anyway.

Does the MHSAA consider AT ALL which teams would be playing each other when determining the districts?

The MHSAA usually but not always follows their north, southwest, west, central, thumb, southeast rules. They are suppose to take into consideration the mileages between the schools since that will reduce the costs for them. BTW changing the map to Hybrid Mode adds a whole new dimension to Playoff mapping... GROOVY BABY!!!!

Usually look at the records and check those that don't have six games against the list of schools with less than 9 game schedule. Spot check the averages. Looked at week six schedule for missing results.

Usually I have to do one remake of the list, but the MHSAA is getting better as the year(s) go on. If anyone spots anything let me know.

It is awfully far between Cass City and Ovid Elsie. So I'm suggesting that Cass City and Millington belongs with Essexville Garber and Standish. This is for D5.

First of all, I just changed D2, so you might take another look. I changed districts 2 and 3 as suggested by MrNcaa.

To answer your question, each color represents a playoff district. District colors are:

Taking data from AuldSchool, here are maps for all 8 divisions. I noticed there were 255 teams at 4-2 or better, and just had to pick one more team (DCC)... so I jumped the gun and got to work before AuldSchool posted the teams.
