To say Devin transfered for sports reason only is like a horse wearing blinders. Academics were certainly a central reason also. Plus he was on disciplinary probation at the beginning of the semester. Quarterback coach Whalen was not rehired his sophomore year. He had many reasons for transferring. His UDJ teammates wish him well.

Another thing to consider about Inkster High is that residents of the city of Inkster for the longest time have had the option of several school districts including: Taylor, Wayne-Westland, and Romulas. With a great coach like Carter a lot of athletes from the following districts will proably return "home' to play ball. You already see this with the Wayne Memorial transfers.

This is an Mlive rumor so I'm not sure if there is anything to it, but word is that Inkster might be the 4th team coming to Dakota for the 4 way pre season scrimmage in August. I can only hope it is true I would love to see how Inkster stacks up. I think the skill guys would make their plays but they would be vastly undersized and underskilled on the O and D line. Either way it would be a big plus to see Inkster come out, last year Lanse Creuse Central bailed and there was only 3 teams...

Sounds like it's a combo of the reasons mentioned that Gardner ended up at Inkster.

1. He wanted go to DePorres initially to play for Coach Carter, but after the closing selected U of D instead.
2. Coach Merchant leaving U of D after his freshmen year.
3. After a strong freshmen year (under merchant) had a tough sophomore year under the new staff.
4. Other talented underclassmen such as Dion Simms leaving U of D.

Like it or not, school of choice is here. I say that because it is part of the reason Gardner ended up at Inkster. Grades definately played a large part as to why he is no longer at UDJ and if I remember correctly, grades that were going to make it tough to find another private school to transfer into. Gardner is great talent that flourished in the UDJ spread offense in his freshman year. His soph year at UDJ was complete obscurity due to his initial suspension and the dismal year that UDJ...

More on the Gardner transfer. Since there is no person on the planet who doesn't think this is a sports-oriented transfer, why is Gardner not ineligible for one year rather than just one semester. I wonder if the transfer has anything to do with the fact Gardner was suspended for the first three games of last season. I think it was a suspension--don't know if it was grades or some other reason. I dan't imaagine it was grades at the beginning of the semester. Can someone post...

It looks like Inkster has become the public school version of OLSM. I'm not necessarily blaming the school or coach, but I think this results from the kids. I would love to hear the details of the Gardner transfer. Why did he leave UDJ? Why did he choose Inkster? Was it that they had a need for a QB to replace Shavers? Did he have a past connection to Coach Carter? Did his family move to Inkster? Was it one of the few schools of choice? Was he actively recruited by Carter? The...

I have never been a big fan of school of coice. With that being said it was one thing when Carter went to Inkster after SMD closed and alot of his kids followed him there. I can see that. However if high profile transfers become the norm that is not right in my opinion.

Reminds me a of thicker version of Justin Siller (DP/OLSM) .... I think Gardner will end up a better runner. .. I have not seen enough of his passing game to really judge the passing game, but Siller was darn good as a 10th grader. Unlike Siller at the same age, I think...
