Sorry my Bears didn't help your pick! Man, EGR's defense was better than they looked on film. Overall they didn't look big, but man, their team speed and discipline was off the charts. At 12-1 with a good number of key players back next year, we might get to see them again. To be truthful, the EGR offense wasn't anything special, solid, but our guys made it too easy for them, short fields(lousy kick coverage, fumbles, int)

At least we know the road to Ford Field...

The most surprising upset in the playoffs so far has to be Leslie's 6-0 victory over Kalamazoo Christian. The craziest thing about this game is that Leslie shut out a team that had averaged 44 points a game. Before this past weekend Kalamazoo hadn't even scored LESS than 35 points in a single game.

Basically there are 3 teams that aren't in or close to the top half of my traditional conference rating method:

1. Madison Heights Madison - made the finals last year and most expected them to be pretty good this year as well.

2. Zeeland West - with 3 of the schools being relatively new this is to be expected. ZW is the defending D4 champ and much was expected out of them. In the won loss percentage conference ratings this conference is in the top half though....

BTW you are all going to be surprised by just how competitive the bears are going to be with EGR. Now, there's no way they will be making another miracle comeback(down 21-0 after 15 minutes of play) against a quality well coached/disciplined team like EGR-BUT (and I have watched 4 of the egr games on tape) I do not think they are as physically talented as the...

Yes they do get a bit edgy I think it upsets them because it makes them sound like a private school.

Why St. Joseph, Boeing? I haven't been that surprised because they have been drilling people most of the year, and Uzelac has really brought some confidence to the program.

BTW, beware, the St. Joseph faithful cringe when they see "St. Joe's"! I've made that mistake once or twice myself.

St. Joseph's - undefeated or not, to go where they did after Ike Mulenkamp retired to now is nothing short of a huge turnaround and for me, a suprise still in the playoffs.

MrNCAA, my blog really has little to do with FB. It has more to do with four years of harassment. It is also about self preservation, if I should go missing - ref the poor SOB from River Rouge who drove to Canton and ended up half in Northville and half in the Rouge River. As such I would not recommend my blog other than for lugubrious gossip...except that my accounts detailed are true.

My take on biggest "surprise still in playoffs"
Is MLK not that are not a very good team as I have seen them play this year, just PSL teams typically do not go this far.
Love to see them carry it all the way.
That said I think it ends this week with MLK playing RA , RA very strong and multi-demensional which is why they are tough.

You're right, upfootball, there is not a lot of talk on here about the D5-D8 schools. Most of the schools I write up are in this range, so my South Central section is probably in the minority. Given the small fan bases of most of these schools, I just don't think you have enough people online to get the discussion started.

upfootball, I have stated numerous times that I don't know how some of these forum regulars do it - pick the lower division teams. While I would be able to find most of the towns on a map, I would have no clue how to make educated picks on some of these games. That is certainly not a deliberate slight on smaller schools. MrNCAA hit it on the head....

As far as the UP goes I must admit I eagerly followed Munising's run many years ago, and now am more than a bit intrigued with...

I can understand why most of the people on here favors the big schools. Quite a few either are from the metro Detroit area, Grand Rapids area, or other "large" cities. Those of us who grew up in smaller counties only had one or two big schools to root for. This is why I followed the smaller Lenawee County teams when I grew up and still do via the internet. Saginaw Nouvel had to beat the #2 teams in both the AP's D6 and D7 final ratings on the road. The AP appears to have done a much better job so far compared in the past. It will be interesting to see if we get down to that one third figure that TheOutlander likes LOL!!!! Before someone points it out, I picked against Saginaw Nouvel in week 1 of the playoffs despite my playoff rule.

The last two weeks I had Midland winning plus would have picked them to win in the first week...

Troy and East Lansing are great choices.

Most years I would go with King (the PSL has not been this far in the higher divisions in a long time, unless I'm forgetting something). But this year I already thought King was very good going in, plus with the draw they got I expected them to get this far.

If King beats Adams, and I change my vote if this poll comes up next week.
