Looking back at the championship list, the last seven titles have been won by Oakridge, Menominee or JLC. Pretty dominant stretch by these three teams.

Next year should be interesting. Of course, you cannot know exact divisional placement, but one of these three teams would likely be in the hunt for 2010.

Oakridge returns Potts at QB, and this kid is the real deal. Being a senior, I could see him leading the team a long way as long as his supporting cast improves. And...

JLC / Muskegon Heights

Heights looked real shakey last night against Berrien. They made a ton of mistakes. Gave Berrien Springs many chances to win the game and Berrien just couldnt capitalize on them.

Heights had 3 punts that went for about 15 yards. It got so bad that Heights went for it on 4th and 3, deep in their own territory, late in the game.... just to avoid punting. (didnt convert it so that didnt work either)

They have size, they have speed. But if they play like they did this...

First Southwest Michigan Coaching Opening

The Lakeview Spartans have begun their search for a new head Varsity coach, as Mark Gibbs resigned from the post on November 3rd. According to the Battle Creek Enquirer, Gibbs mentioned that he considered it after the 2008 season to spend more time with family. In his seven years with the Spartans, he was 38-31 and made the postseason once, in his first season in 2003. There would have been two playoff seasons (2004), but the school forgot to fill out paperwork to the MHSAA for a transfer...

I thought I'd give a recap of Jackson area qualifiers and their prospects as the playoffs commence this week.

Jackson (6-3)
Jackson did not get a bad draw, going on the road to face Howell in the first round. Howell and Jackson have both lost to Grand Ledge, with Jackson losing by a smaller margin. Howell also lost a nail biter to undefeated Grand Blanc, and did beat Livonia Stevenson early in the year. This should be a good game, and Jackson...

I've been remiss in not posting more information this year, so I've decided to do a brief catchup on the area teams. One overall theme: the Jackson area teams overall seem to be a bit down this year. Some traditionally good squads are a bit down, giving some others a chance to shine.

A couple of surprise teams have popped up after 3 weeks. Parma Jackson County Western (3-0) in undefeated after three weeks for the first time since 1975. The Panthers...

Jackson Area after Week 7

I've been remiss is writing anything this season, so I'll try to catch everyone up on the teams with playoff possibilities still dancing in their heads...

Jackson High (4-3) pulled out a big win (22-21) over recent rival Jackson Northwest (4-3). Both teams face an uphill battle to make the playoffs, with Jackson High playing Lansing Everett and Howell, and Northwest has St. Johns this week. If anyone makes it, it will be Northwest....
